hip trochanter twisted??

Hi. I'm 18 yrs old & have always been pretty flexable. In May (it's now July) I tried a dificult cheer trick and ended up feeling like I pulled something. Since then, I've been "google'ing" possible answers & solutions for my hip. I feel like my right trochanter has been twisted in the wrong place. I have so many questions! Is it really twisted? Will I be as flexable as I used to be? I have more, but it might be best to start out with these few.

Thanks, Tuck! I appreciate your comments! This was really helpful. I'll be sure to contact my PCP ASAP (lol, yes that was a corny joke...I know). I will definitely be sure to post my results as soon as I can.

Hi Marinoche,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum.

I'm trying to understand your post. Your statement, " I feel like my right trochanter has been twisted in the wrong place" means that you think you have twisted your hip joint in the wrong place. Your Trochanter should never "twist" in any direction. The hip is a synovial ball and socket joint. Normal ranges of movement are Flexion, Extension, Adduction, Abduction, Medial Rotation and Lateral Rotation. Although rotation is a normal function twisting is not.... so I assume you mean you just twisted the hip joint. Certainly that can be painful.

I can't tell you what you may have done to the joint or more likely what supporting structures you may have injured. Until you have a DX and actually know what was injured and to what degree it was injured one cannot guess what if any flexibility may have been lost.... or not be regained.  However at 18 it's probably not permanent and the important thing to do is to consult your PCP.

The computer is a wonderful tool but it cannot DX you regardless of how much Goggling you may do. My PCP says it's surprising how many patients today "Goggle" their SX, diagnose themselves and then request medications or treatments based on their self DX. It's dangerous (and not intelligent) to substitute a computer for a physician.... so I suggest that you have a clinical evaluation. Your PCP can best answer your questions. It is true that the sooner you have a proper DX and treatment the better the outcome. It's also true that in some instances the longer an injury is left untreated the more likely they are to become chronic and the less likely you'll receive a positive prognosis.

I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. I'll look forward to learning the results of your appointment.

Peace,
~Tuck
