I have been communicating on a website about methadone detox but I feel so scared about when it's all said and done.  You see, I'm 32 and have had two spinal fusions, have lupus and fibromyalgia.  Once I'm finished with this methadone, I don't want to go back to narcotics.  I've tried the anti-inflammatories and ended up with the worst stomach pain of my life.  Am I out of options?  I know there are some exercises out there and I've tried yoga.  I just feel stuck between a rock and a hard place.  Everyone in these communities are so helpful and kind and without everyone, I would feel so alone.  So not even getting responses, but reading that there are others out there, helps.  You're all in my prayers.

I am glad the community helps you in some way. I only wish we could do more. I know it is very hard to detox from the medications your taking for a legitimate purpose but you can do it:)
I applaud you for doing this and hope things work out for you. We are here for you so don't hesitate to ask for help or support or if you need to vent then you can do that as well. We all do sometimes:)

hi there..I am also in Canada and I am faced with all the same questions as you are.
the PMP aren't easily assessable when we don't live near a large enough city for these serices. and when alone and on medications we are dependent on others to take us to appointments....and the costs of doing so are always a concern too.
the medication I am on currently isn't working as well as it should, I am faced with either increasing the dose or possibly stopping all together and living with the pain, its a hard decision when we are alone and have no support.
all the best

Thank you very much for the  info! It is quite different situation as I am in Canada. We have what you call free health care which has a few draw backs. There is a shortage of docs here and we r lucky to keep the ones we have. Also work my own business 6 days a week and get no time off. No family here to help take over if I could ever think of detoxing. And you r rite Tuck...not sure I could handle the constant pain without the dam drugs! I must say I am so grateful I found you all because I was feeling so alone here and was ready to just give it all up.I am just very concerned wha the long term use of these drugs are doing to my body and my mind also.   Thanx again just for being there   Charliegirl        P.s. I read these posts everyday just for strength!

Hi Charliegirl,

JHuxlet has responded well to your post. I'd just like to add that I too wish you the best.  I remember you earlier posts and know that you are not an addict, you just want to stop taking the PM medications.

I am so disappointed in your physician. There are medications that can help you through this process. If he is unwilling to assist you there are other physicians that will. Don't be afraid to ask. There is help out there, even for those that are not abusing.

I am concerned with how you will handle the chronic pain that you will face once you are off the morphine. But I guess you have to take one step at a time. I think that is why it is important that a physician monitor your withdrawal and offer supportive medications.

Please let us know how you are doing. I will watch for your updates.

Take care and be cautious,
Tuck

Type 'Thomas recipe' in the search engine on this site. Or Find Emily post's tramadol addiction and recovery room, again on this site, it's in one of the earlier postings.

A past acuaintance used a similar method for Herion detox. It's only a way to get the drug out of the users system, supposedly making the withdrawal easier. From conversations had with her she said it was important to have other support, therapy of some kind (she went into some kind of recovery program) to make sure you stay off once detox is complete and to help deal with cravings and the like. She said the detox part in a way was easier then the weeks/months that followed.

Good luck
