I use eye oniment for my dry eyes. I suffer from graves diseas. I do see a neuro opthomalogist.
I use the oniment one at night and one in the morning. It works great for me, but I also have to wear sun glasses & try to stay out of the wind.
There is a specialty called an opthamalogical neurologist. In a situation involving muscular control of the eyelids, this would be the specialty for a consult.
My wife works for an eye surgeon. I asked her what you should do. She said that there are a few different things that could be cause chronic dry eyes. The key word here is "cause". You have to see an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) in order to be diagnosed properly. In the meantime there are over the counter drops available to temporarily combat dry eyes (key word = temporarily). Remember, something is causing your eyes to be dry all the time. The drops will not fix the problem, they will only help you to feel better temporarily. She said you should feel free to use the drops until you can get an appointment to see the eye doctor. Good luck,
shinty
Dry eyes and eyelids that don't open easily are symptoms of a cranial nerve palsy, often secondary to infection, a neuroma, or high glucose levels. Usually the symptoms resolve after a month or so. Many physicians treat with a short regiman of prednisone. There are drops available to keep the eye lubricated.
