methadone, cheap is what coints.

I think it is a crime that every doctor is pushing methadone for pain relief, due to pressure of the costs of other available, less harmful methods.  Is there a panel ANYWHERE looking into this epidemic for the pain SUFFERER?  I am NOT going to become a methadone addict because it is SO CHEAP!  I have several family members on methadone, much to THEIR chagrin, and now they can't get off it.  Yesterday, i found out my sister in Kentucky was also given it for headache pain, 3 times a day for LIFE!  She was not given any bad press about it, and although we have heart disease in our family, I am on blood pressure medicine and have heart palpitations and I am 56, none of these issues were considered before, during or after I saw the pain management dr. from the insurance company last week.  He has big plans to switch me from my high priced oxycontin, which I had no side effects from, to methadone, with no end to the usage in sight.  I am disgusted with the insurance companies only concern being money, and not the effects of a drug as long as it dirt cheap.  Methadone is the cheapest drug I have personally ever heard of, check it out.  I am between a rock and a hard place, and it is VERY hard to convince a DOCTOR he may be wrong.  But I will refuse the methadone.

I am sorry you are having problems.  My husband was on fentanyl and more.  His doctor did not show up one day and never returned. At the same time our insurance company refused to pay for the high priced drugs and we did not have $1,000.  My husband went through horrible withdrawal until he could find another pain management doctor.
I told the doctor that we needed a pain medicine that we could pay for so that if the insurance stopped paying for we could still manage.  I hope this makes sense.
I agree with you that is is terrible that insurance companies get to decide what is allowed however I never want to be in the situation again, where my husband is going through withdrawal, we have a prescription and can't pay for it.  Methadone is a good pain medicine, it lasts longer than anything else.  Also a person can take a very low dose to handle the pain.
Good luck to you

Sorry I answered you twice, your question popped up and I answered, again, sorry
I do not think it is fair as all, when my husband was on the higher priced pain meds the ins decided it would no longer pay and we were in a bind, at the same time we lost a doctor.  So sorry for what you are going through.  I don't understand what is going on
