Sharp thigh pains with resulting numbness

I am a 57 year old female who has recently experienced some "mystery" symptoms. I no sooner resigned from my job and relocated to another state (as a result, NO money, NO health insurance and NO health provider) and a medical concern has arisen: I was getting out of my car last week when, suddenly, I experienced several sharp pains in the fleshy part of my left thigh. My immediate thought was a bee/wasp sting but when I got inside the house and examined the area, there was no redness or evidence of an insect bite. This pain has recurred several times since (usually when taking my first step or two after arising from a sitting position) and there has been a resulting numbness in my left thigh ever since the first episode. I find this really alarming since I have never experienced anything comparable. Can someone PLEASE help me with some information as to what this might be?

Hello Linylou,

I am glad you found us at the pain Mangement Forum and took the time to post. Welcome.

It sounds to me like you may have some structural problems in your spinal column. The simple move out of your care may have been enough to cause an injury. Of course it would happen when you are low on cash and have no insurance. That seems to be the way of life.

I know it is bothersome but it doesn't sound like your symptoms are extreme at this time. A bee sting or insect bite feeling may be tolerable until you can obtain insurance. I would treat it as a strain. Talk to a pharmacist and ask for a good OTC NSAID.Rest as best you can. usually rotating ice and heat  can be beneficial. However knowing where to place it may be a challenge.

If your pain or symptoms increase there may be free clinics in your new location. Also an ER department must treat you rather you have insurance or not. Unfortunately you are left with a huge medical bill. You may be better off to call a clinic and see if you can make payments. Please don't neglect it if it continues.

I hope you will keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates and I wish you the best.

Take Care,
~Tuck

Hi Lindylou,

I want to Welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and to let you know that we are glad that you have found  our Forum. I need to let you know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own Expertise and Experiences that we have gained thru our own Pain Battles.

Isn't it ALWAYS the way!! When you JUST move or change and have NO Money or Insurance SOMETHING will ALWAYS happen!! I'm so VERY sorry that this is happening to you.

I looked at your profile and noticed that you are interested in Back Pain and was wondering IF you have been having some problems with your back?  The reason that I ask this is because what you're experiencing COULD have something to do with your back. Possibly an injury or slipped disc or pulled muscle or something along those lines.

If you can check with a Doctor that would of course be your VERY best choice.

There will be others along a little later that may have more suggestions as to what this could be that's happening to you!!

I'm VERY glad that you are here and I hope that  you will continue to keep us updated on your Diagnosis and Progress...:)........Sherry
