in pain from c-2 fracture

I was in a car accident in 2004, I suffered a c-2 fracture and a concussion. Ever since I have been in pain. Sometimes the pain is tolerable, other times It hurts bad.
I have been to drs, I can't get any relief. Right now they have me on somas. They also gave me lortabs only I can't take them. They make me sick.
My last MRI which was 3 weeks ago, doc said c-2 is seated on top of c-3 and is not aligned. Also could possibly have nerve damage.
My husband wants me to go to pain clinic. My sister thinks I shouldn't that they will just dope me up.
I don't know what to do

I have tried 1/2 a lortab. I have taken it and phenergin, I have had physical therapy, and massage therapy. I have gone from this dr to that one. the only thing I have not done is the last dr suggested I see another dr from the trauma center I was taken to. He told me they may have to do surgery. It kinda scared me so I haven't been referred yet. I just needed to think about it.
What I was told about a year after the accident is there is nothing they can do. To go see my family dr for the pain, a neurologist for the headaches and memory loss. Did that. It didn't help.

Not all pain clinics, or doctors for that matter, are created equally.  Why not at least consult one or two and see what they might be able to do for you?  If you don't want to take narcotic meds, they certainly can't force you to do so.  Intense physical therapy would probably help as well since the goal is to build up enough muscle to take the strain off your skeletal system.

As for the lortab making you sick, have you tried cutting the pills and taking them 1/2 at a time?  Taking a Pepcid at the same time also helps.  Many people have tummy troubles when taking narcotic meds, and taking them on an empty stomach is usually a prescription for nausea.
