oxycodone regiments

Well here i go, never did anything like this before on the computer.
This is my question:
I have been on oxycodone off and on for about 3 years now. Ive been with 3 different doctors (all in the same clinic mind you) and they have all have transferred somewhere else. Im going on my 4th in mid January.
Ill try to keep this short. Ive had 3 MRI's done on my lower and mid spine. I also have  pain in my elbows. wrists, butt cheeks, knees etc. The 1st doctor cut me off cold turkey, he thought i was selling them.( lol) The second doctor perscribed them on a perfect regiment of 5mg 350mg 100 a month, then i found out he was leaving too. The 3rd doctor wants to wean me off of them and go get the procedures done that the pain clinics advised (2 types of injections and or surgery.) So i dont know what to do. I that type of person that if its not life threating no surgery or injections. Ive been a very physical(Labor)worker for 25 years at same employer. The regiment of the 2nd doctor was perfect. The pain was tolerable and i could work normally, but when im off of The meds its really hard to get in the groove and im slow.Ive been talking to him over and over again to put me back on the regiment, but he wont, hes leaving any way what does he care. I been researching the pros and cons of oxycodone and i dont see the deal of the addiction cause ive been on and off of them so many times. Idont get a high or a great feeling as people call it. I take it for pain not pleasure. Some of these doctors dont seem to believe me. Im a avid watcher of the show intervention and other shows that some drugs are addictive. Icould never put my marrage or family in jeopardy. Sorry im Going on too long now, but ive been off the meds now for three four weeks now and literally its a pain. How do i get a long term regiment of the meds, without these sudden cut offs. Im on other regiments like gout treatments and heartburn. I just dont understand the difficulty im having with this.
If you have advice, please reply. (im german so im alittle stubborn, but im open)

                          THX

I have also been through all the different regimens of pain management. I was told I had some bulging discs etc, (I feel now it was excuses to bill my insurance company for expensive procedures, (i.e. nerve blocks, mri's, ct;s etc)and all the while the doses of narcotics being increased as my tolereance levels increased over time.
I continued to do as I was "advised/told" by my pain mngt dr, and my pain levels seemed to just increase and the amount of narcotics i was taking increased as well.
I had been in treatment for about 6-7 years when my Dr. was arrested for "dr. shopping" himself, and was caught shooting up the very drugs he was writing his patients in his car right before performing spinal nerve blocks on us.
It wasn't until then I realized I had been in a 7 yr circle of death! my health had deteriorated, and so had my mental well-being. not to mention my energy levels. and none of this was helping my back pain enough to make my daily activities not such an ordeal.
i went off all those meds cold turkey! (was on 30mg roxicodones, 4x day  for breakthrough pain, and 10mg somas, 3x day for muscle spams , and for extended pain relief, 60mg morphine (time released) 3x per day. cold turkey off all that stuff was...... well.......... HORRIBLY PAINFUL, TERRIBLY MISERABLE, BUT SOOOOOOOOOOOO WORTH IT!
Since I got to some real Dr. care I have FINALLY GOTTEN A REAL DIAGNOSIS...... fibromyalgia, bad stuff..... bad bad stuff.... but the one type of pain relief that I found made a huge difference was a patch my primany care dr tried me on, after watching me struggle in pain management for all those years and then getting my diagnosis finally but still suffering in severe pain, he put me on a (buponepherine patch) medicine called butrans, (they come in strengths of 5mcg per hour, 10 mcg per hour, or 20mcg per hour) I started out on the 10mcg one, and I am going to say this ......,,. YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT A TRY!~ relief is a splendid thing when you have been suffering so long. (good luck to you, i hope you will find some releif soon!)

I meant to find a different dr that isn't affiliated with any other dr that you already see. The way I understood your post was that you had been to several drs all associated with each other in one clinic.

Thank you for your input.
Just had 1 question, what do you mean by finding a independant doctor?
different doc in the same clinic? If so their all women and i feel more comfortable with a male doc.( Which they only have 1 male doc out of 9 docs.)

I'm so sorry you are having issues with your doctors.  I really feel for u. There is nothing worse than being in pain and then having the stress of wether you will get any pain meds or not. Is there a possibity of u changing out of the doctors at that clinic and finding someone completely independent of them?

Also another idea is to see if your current dr will provide some medication while you are following their suggestions of procedures etc who knows the treatment might work and you would require less of the pain meds in the long run.

Just a couple thoughts I had. Oh - BTW - I am German too so I totally understand the stubbornness - sometimes I'm like a dog with it's bone. Won't back down for nothing.  Lol. Hang in there on your quest for pain relief!
