Hi Sandee,
I have a question. Does anyone know where these pain clinics are getting there drugs from? If they are able to relocate immediately they have to have a really good source for there pills. If they are getting them legitimately can the LE trace there orders and STOP their deliveries?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, it's just that I've never heard of that being mentioned. Maybe I missed it. But that really bothers me how they are obtaining them.
Thanks for any input that you may have....Sherry
Fla is in the process of changing their laws RE: prescribing opiates. As of now their laws are the MOST lax in the country. Last week 170 med clincis were raided in Southern Fla.
This is very true Augy. It is a huge problem here. The law enforcement in Kentucky are fed up with it because they have a huge problem with people coming to doctor shop here in Florida at the pill mills and then going back to Kentucky and selling them. I read one article where the sheriff in one county in Kentucky said his jail is over crowded with people they have caught doing this and they catch people everyday.
I wish there was more we could do to help LE close these places down.
When LE does close one they just relocate, it is a very big problem.
Not only does it hurt legitimate people who need help with their pain it is dangerous to those who use these clinics as the doctors are not at all concerned with their Pt's medical well being. I have seen where numerous Pt's have been arrested for using these clinics. It is always best to have a reputable PM doctor treating you, always.
These clinics do not accept insurance it is cash only.
In the video it shows where many have died that had no reason to be on these medications and they overdosed as they were getting excessive amounts of medications they abused and did not need to begin with.
It is horrible. The parents who lose their children because someone is trying to make money!
I highly advise anyone using these type of clinics to please get a reputable PM doctor as it is much safer and will not threaten their freedom nor their health!
The problem is there appears to be a LOT of money being made like this. I read where one doctor was offered $100k a month by one of these owners just to write prescriptions. He said he turned the offer down, but with money being paid like that, they'll have no problem finding another.
Meanwhile, legitimate chronic pain sufferers are struggling to get the medications they need.
I do not condone any illegal activities or abusing these medications. This video does explain the "pill mill" and what the drugs can do to those who do not use it as prescibed for legitimate pain.
There is a video on this.......

There are "pill mills" here in Florida. They are basically owned by people who hire doctors to write just about anything you want if you have documentation of your pain. They generally charge 250.00 to see the doctor and do not take insurance.
The law is trying to shut them down and has successfully shut down several but to be honest when they shut down one another one will pop up.
When seeing a pain management doctor you need one that is looking out for your welfare and health and these kinds of places are not, they are there simply to make money. It is best to stay away from them as you too can be charged with a crime if your involved with them.
I hope that law enforcement does soon get a handle on them but it takes alot of time to shut them down.
Although I have no first hand experience with these "pill mills", I've read a lot in the news about them.
It seems the number of pain clinics in south FL exceed the average by a large number.
The state has been cracking down on on them recently as it's a growing problem in the area.
From what I've read, you just walk in, give a brief explanation of your pain and walk out with the meds.
I am not aware that it is easier or more difficult to obtain opiates in southern FL. I would assume that the entire state is regulated in the same manner. It just doesn't make sense that it is easier to get narcotics in one part of the state verses another.
My only guess would be that southern FL may see more "snow birds"or senior citizens with more documented pain management needs than the younger population.
I know of no "pill mills" any where in the state. Hopefully someone from FL can comment on your question. My CL partner, Sandee is from central FL and she may have more answers. Until last year I have gone to FL every year for long vacations, my parents spent winters there many years as do several of our older acquaintances but I have never heard of "pill mills."
I'll ask one of our Florida members to comment on your question.

t's SO dangerous to get your pain medication from the Pill Mills.
