Hi Survivor200953,
I am sorry to hear that you have dropped your meds into the dishwasher. I dropped mine into a just emptied wet sink when I first began Pain Management. Although I felt comfortable asking my physician for a refill I didn't. I did not want to have a blemish on my otherwise pristine opiate usage..... Even though I thought she would understand. I picked up what I could, dried them out and used what I had until the next refill date. I didn't and don't know what lies ahead and want to save that usual "one time" mistake if I need an early refill in the future. This may be true for you also.
Please don't use the Oxy. If you are drug tested you will fail and risk losing your PMP. I don't want to see that happen to you. In this instance you may be better off discussing it with your PMP or you will certainly begin the withdrawal process and of course your pain will not be managed. So UNLESS this Oxy was ordered by your PMP and is part of your PM regime I would not take it.
Could you share with us why you feel you cannot talk to your PMP about this? I am sorry you find yourself in this situation. I'll look forward to hearing more from you.
Take Care,
~Tuck
Mellie hit the nail on the head with her post. I couldn't have said it better.
You definitely need to talk with your Doctor immediately. How long have you beenwith your doctor? Have you had a similar problem with something happening to your meds before that your Doctor has told you he/she won't replace them or is that in your Pain Contract that you might have signed that "no meds will be replaced early for any reason"? A lot of Pain Contracts have that in them. If that's the case, it's still worth a try to see what he/she will say about this circumstance.
Please don't take anything that your Doctor hasn't prescribed for you. You will wind up losing your Doctor if they give you any type of a drug test, such as a UA test. Think twice before you do something that will jeopardize your relationship with your Doctor. It's just not worth it!! We've seen it happen on MH (MedHelp) way to often. Once it's jeopardized it can never be repaired!!
I wish you the best and will look for your update to the questions.......Sherry
Why do you feel you can't talk to your doctor? Has this type of thing happened before? Over the past 4 years I've had a few mishaps with medication and my doctor was very understanding. As I'm sure you know, methadone has a long half-life so how do you know when you need to start the oxycontin? And where are you getting the oxycontin? You could really jeopardize your relationship with your doctor by doing this. If they test you and find the oxycontin, they could drop you immediately. I think you need to be honest with your doctor. Sometimes things happen. Honesty is best in these situations. I felt foolish with a couple of the things I did but I'd rather be a bit embarrassed than get caught doing something I wasn't supposed to. And if you can't talk to your doctor, that's a problem. You need to have an open, honest relationship with each other. Did you switch to the methadone because you weren't getting good pain results with other narcotics? If so, it's unlikely the oxycontin will help anyway. Please rethink this and talk to your doctor. Let us know how things go and what you decide to do.
