Hello and Welcome.
What type of pain are your experiencing? Is this neuropathy pain? Are you a diabetic? A little more information would be helpful.
When you don't work those long shifts do you still experience pain? What have you done that helps the pain - if anything. Does only working 12 hour shift make it worse?
Have you had any testing done?
I found that the right pair of shoes made a difference how my feet, legs and SIJ felt. Bad shoes, or old shoes, pain. I looked for some time before I found that "right" pair of shoes. By the way they were Nurse Mates - the right pair of Nurse Mates for me.
Soaking in a warm tub also helped, as did support hose - and putting my feet up whenever I could. Eventually I bought a massage chair that massaged my feet and legs - divine!
I hope something we've said will be of help. Please let us know.
My Best,
~Tuck
Hi welcome to a great forum. This could be a silly question but is it like sheen splints? If so walk around on your heals of feet it will build up sheen muscles. It's just a thought. You being a nurse probably know alot more than I do about it. Let us know what you find out.
Sorry, I hit post too soon.
Wanted to add that I'm so happy to see you taking part in our Forum and already using your expertise helping other members. :)
Please keep us updated, also, on how your legs are doing and what you find out from your Doctor.
Best of luck............Sherry :)
Hi!
First let me tell you I'm very happy that you have found the Pain Management Forum! Let me tell you that there are no Doctor's on this Forum just CPP (Chronic Pain Patients) that try to help each other through our years of Chronic Pain and how we have learned to deal with it.
I'm so sorry to hear of the intense pain you are having in your shins each night. Being a nurse and on your feet all day (or nite depending on your shift) it must be unbearable for you.
Have you been to see a Doctor about this yet? That would be the first thing I would do to find the exact cause of this. It could be starting in your spine or joints be caused from being on your feet all day.
I would try ibuprofen or advil or something along those lines until you can have this checked out. Whenever possible, I'd try putting my legs up whenever possible both at work and home. You could try a warm bath at nite and just soaking to try to relieve the pain some before you get into bed at nite.
I wish I had more suggestions but I recommend you see your Doctor ASAP so you can get some much needed relief.
