sore and swollen iv site

I think i may have developed  an infection at iv site. The site is very red, swollen, hot to the touch and i have a current body temp of 101 but has been as high as 102.4. I do have body aches but no other symptoms. How likely is iv site infection?

Hi Sheilag,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum.

It does sound like you have a localized infection...or the beginning of a cellulitis. If you haven't been to Urgent Care or ER you need to do so now. You want to avoid a system wide blood infection, sepsis.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Best of Luck,
~Tuck

Unfortunaely, more likely and common than you would (or would even like to) think.  I had one get infected several years ago and ended up with a nasty case of cellulitis that ended me up int he hospital for 7 days and I nearly not only lost my hand/arm, but also my life.

Please get this checked out immediately.
