i was diagnosed of myofascial pain syndrome - it's some kind of chronic muscle pain,in some studies synonyms to fibromyalgia because of almost the same manifestation or process of pain... my physical therapy & midicine doctor discussed on it...there were called taut-band/trigger points in the muscle...that can caused muscle to become inflammed and feel pain, stiff/rigid in some areas like neck, jaw, shoulder, arm and back & hip...weakness in the lower limbs...some factors contributed by stress, inactivity of the muscle, over use/ over fatigue or some damage in the muscle tissue or body tissue...even physician don't know the exact caused on it and the some study-no cure for the condition...physical therapy and some meds. helps in some ways....

i kept on researching on it...more power & good luck...thank you, god bless...

thank you for sharing some ideas on it...when i felt tightness /stiffness &pain in some part of my body, tendency is to stop me on what i'm doing...not yet try yoga, but when i feel this some kind of depress...quickly divert my attention like watching television or browsing on internet..., going to therapy clinic everyday helps in some ways...
thank you & more power ...god bless.

It sounds like your physician has prescribed the initial standard medications.

You may find in time that an occasional small dose of a narcotic will break the pain cycle and provide more relief. Life is too short to be live it miserably with uncontrolled chronic pain.

I am told that although exercise may initially increase your pain that in time your body will actually have less pain. I do know that moving is important. Even on my worse days I must have some activity.

I hope you'll keep in touch.

Myofacial pain syndrome is kinda like fibromyalgia...a vague diagnosis...but they r very similar to each other and in ways i think they r the same process....is it more tightness or pain//or both?

The right medications..which often mean finding the right dr can help alot...sometimes pain does go away///it can not be solved surgically...so we live with it and do the best we can to have quality of life...accepting cp is hard//was for me as i was an aerobic instructor when mine hit me...had to change careers cos of it...

stretching, yoga is my true pain reliever to be honest...ice, heat and talking to good pain mgt dr can help..be safe

Hello Pain2009,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I think your post may have been moved here. You are always welcome here but please know that there are no physicians or experts on the PM Forum.

Have you read this: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Chronic-Pain/will-i-get-any-better/show/1009230?
In part is Dr. Junig says, "'myofascial pain syndrome' is a term used for a condition where people have chronic pain that doesn't have a clear cause.  The term is usually synonymous with 'fibromyalgia.'  Since taking this forum, I have been surprised by the number of people who have similar symptoms;  pain in various parts of their bodies without a clear reason or solution..... There are no known cures for the condition.... "

If I understand the condition correctly the "strange feeling" will probably not go away. Did some one lead you to beleive that would?

There are some things that you can do to treat your pain. Dr Junig suggests exercise and adequate sleep. I also think that if your pain is making you miserable there should be different medications that will help reduce your misery. Discuss this with your physician.

Your condition like many others may have flares and exacerbation's. They should be followed by periods of less pain. It can be almost cyclic. Warm baths, massage, some times acupuncture or biofeedback may be helpful. It's often trial and error to discover what works best for each person.

All of us on this Forum suffer from some degree of Chronic Pain. We understand where you are coming from and can relate to your pain and frustrations. Hopefully others will offer suggestions. Please feel free to post again. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. We often learn from one another. Best if luck to you.

Peace,
Tuck
