Wow! Just goes to show -- some of these meds that doctors prescribe INSTEAD of opiates are quite scary! But, then, at the same time, I've heard that narcotics *raise* intracranial pressure (pressure on brain = not good), so maybe narcs not the best thing for headache.
I have a feeling that migraines are one of those things that are truly NOT understood fully. That's why lots of doctors offices have signs up on the wall "WE DO NOT TREAT HEADACHE"
I was originally put on Gabapentin and had a quick large amount of weight gain. So they put me on Topamax to reverse the weight gain and for my migraines. It helped my migraines but within about 3 weeks I started having pins and needles sensation in my hands, which quickly started occurring in my feet. Within a week it went from pins and needles to a piercing pain as if being stung by bees and kept getting worse. They stopped the Topamax and within a week all the sensations that were happening while I was on Topamax went away. Suffered all that and didn't even lose a lb. Sigh
Please talk with your doctor about these side effects.
Perhaps a dose adjustment, or addition of another medication will help.
Best wishes.
