Afraid to go to sleep

All of a sudden one of my 6 year old twin boys can't go to sleep because he's to afraid something will happen.  He mostly talks about robbers coming into the house.  My husband and I try and reasure him that everything will be ok, but the only thing that works is when one of us goes to bed upstaris as well.  He also shows some paranoia during the day.  He always has to know where we are and likes us to be very close by.  This was never a problem before and we don't know what to do about it.

Thank you for your help.

Get the movie Home Alone it is the perfect movie to let young boys know they can defend themselves their family and their home. I also agree that you should investigate the fear if it is new you never know what is goin on at school on the bus or in the neighborhood or amongst their peer group to make them feel such fear. It takes time to get to the root of children emotions when talking to my daughter(8yr) if it is to emotional or sshe gets stuck or silent I leave her alone think of another approch and come back a couple hours later or even a day later and let her know she can tell me anything no matter what that I am her main protector I use the fact that her father and I have had military experience .. it might not be a bad idea to inform your kids on the ways that you and your husband are able to protect them and work on "what if" and "just in case" scenarios to practice what you all should do in case of an emergency and Be careful about what your kids watch on TV violence is all the rave now-a-days

Sounds as if he has heard something scary or seen it on TV have you asked him ? has he had anyone new in his life babysitting or any older family members dropping by, check out the Why here... something has been happening I doubt he started this without a reason .Who would have access to talking to him without you around ..ask him why he is afraid of robbers breaking in .....
