how to get kid to sleep thru the night without being scare of ghost?

my 10 years old son wakes up about 2 to 3 times a night because he is too afraid of ghost to sleep by himself. the problem started about 2 months ago. he told me that he was afraid of the dark and ghost from the scary movies that he had watched with his older cousins when he was about 7 or 8 years old. he said it did not bother him back then because he was too young to know, but now it seems to pop up in his mind when he sleep or being in the dark. he sleep thru the night only when me or my husband sleep with him or if we allow him to sleep in our room. i wonder if anyone else have similar problem or any ideas how to handle this situation and most importantly is this just a phase or can it lead to some other type of problem. i've read couples of article related to this situation on other website but it seems those kids are much younger so i am very concern because my son is going to be in junoir high next year, how much longer do i have to stay with him thru the night.

i used to have the same problem myself and im nearly 27 now and am still not fond of the dark,,but i have come to realise that it was/is an irrational fear,, a night light may help, my mum had to leave the landing light on and leave my door open,, i also found when my little one got scared of doctor who it helped him showing him doctor who confidential after so he could see how it was made and the people in the costums,, maybe you can find out if there is any behind the scene footage of the film that scared your son ..

My son is just gone 11 and is acting the same way. He won`t go upstairs alone or sleep alone. It`s getting out of hand. In other peoples houses he wont go to the bathroom alone. Most people i speak to say he will grow out of it but to me it seems to be getting worse. Any advise. Thankyou. Gert.
