If she is 6, she is probably in school by now. Most schools in the US will give a child an evaluation by a speech specialist, occupational therapist, and a psychologist. If there is a child where issues such as extreme tantrums occur or erratic behavior, the school would suggest to you that your child is observed by the school couselor and then these professionals. Is she having problems at school? Or does she save the behavior for you at home (joy)? If she is able to hold it together at school---- I would question the bipolar diagnosis you are giving her. Most delays and psychological disorders are seen everywhere including school. They can help you come to a determination regarding your daughter. Also her pediatrician/doctor would be important to contact. 6 years old is a tough age because kids are going through transitions----- from preschool or no school to kindergarten and they are no longer babies but still have immature emotions and abilities to cope. Good luck.
If you are looking to see if she has a disorder check her out with your Doctor, what was your reaction back to her when she told you that she had had a time out, what did you say, sounds as if she reacted to what your response was.
A prime example. we were talking as she was getting into the bathtub laughing no problems. I asked her what happened at school (she was given a timeout for being a chatty kathy). Her behavoir turned as quick as a lightswitch. Snap- she started whining, screaming, and crying.
We have to constantly watch out demeanor or she freaks out. Basically if she does not get her way she snaps. What is of concern is the manic state she goes into. She cries no no no and her crying is almost rythmic.
Is this early onset Bi-polar and what do we do next?
What has happened prior to the Tantrums, can you give an instance, what would she be screaming about? what kind of discipline do you use ?
