My 6 year old's knee pain

My six year old has been complaining of a knee pain when he runs fast. This causes him to slow down or stop . These complaints have persisted over the past two or three months. There is no swelling,  reddness  or tenderness when touched and he does not complain of pain during any other activity except when he runs. Is this something I should be worried about.

This could be growing pains which are always concentrated in the muscles rather than the joints .The pains can occur after a strenuous athletic day ..best way of easing pains ..massaging the area ,stretching, a heating pad ,an ibuprofen..never aspirin for a child under 12 year old .Any other symptoms like swelling , tenderness its good to get it checked out ..good luck
