Xopenex

My three month old son was put on xopenex every four hours.  The studies done have only been on six years and up.  He has an increased heart rate which I know is common, but he's so  young.  The instructions say no more then three doses of .63 mg three times a day.  Well he gets about six a day.  Any one else on this medication?

my son has been on it since he was 5 weeks old and he is now 5 years old. sometimes we have to give it to him every 3 hours, but that is when he is in the hospital. when he is able to be at home and needs to have it I have to give it to him every 4 hours. he can not have albuterol, due to the fact it will cause his heart rate to go up so far xopenex has not. he has heart issues so the xopenex is what he takes as well as pulmicort. so far it hasn't seemed to "hurt"himit has only helped him.
I hope this helps and good luck

My son had to take that in his nebulizer from the time he was about three until about the age of 8 about every 4 hours I think he did better on it then the albutral. If you are uncomfortable giving that to him I would recommend getting a second opinon.

I have adult onset asthma and I am taking it for the first time 3 weeks ago.  It does help me breathe and is better than Albuterol.  You're right I've read that children younger than 6 years are not to take it.  I don't feel the same side effects as I did when I used Albuterol last year.  I got over the asthma for almost 10 months with natural foods, no sugars or dairy products and lots of supplements.  It seems since I began adding these things back into my diet I've had a more difficult time breathing.  Do you have a Naturopath in your area?  Your son is so young.  Maybe try to get a second opinion.  I take no other medication, just Xopenex. but I don't like taking anything.  I want to just breathe on my own.  I am going to get well and I pray your son does too.  Be careful of doctor's.  There are good, but many only seem to know about pharmaceuticals.
