Baby wants to suck

My LO wants to suck all the time.  He is three months old and will not take a paci.  I have tried 4 different kinds and he won't even entertain the thought.  I am weaning him off the breast and he loves his bottles more than me now.  I am fine with that...kind of the point of weaning I guess.  But anyway, I am distraught over the need to suck.  He will eat a 6 oz bottle and then want to latch onto my neck while burping or my hand if I burp on my lap, or my arm if it is there.  He will even try to latch onto the play mat during tummy time (which he HATES).  If I go to kiss his cheek he will try to latch onto my face.  Am I starving him.  I change his diaper often and they are all loaded with pee (actually heavy).  He wont take a paci.  It is starting to get embarrassing when he is being held by other people and he is latching all over them.  I thought maybe it was because of the weaning but he was like this before I started.  So how can I get my little one to suck on a paci so he doesnt always have his mouth hanging open waiting for something to pass by so he can latch on to it.  I swear he looks like he is trying to catch flies all day.  My DH calls him Venus...(Venus Fly Trap)

I have never given our breastfed children a pacifier because I wanted to be always aware of when they were hungry.  But yes to accommodate their teething and sucking urges, we would give them a cold teether.  I think suckling is quite normal and comforting for them, just think of how much they did it in utero :)

Some babies never actually take a pacifier. My daughter loves to latch onto everyone as well. I've got numerous pictures of her trying to eat people's faces. For example she's currently sucking on the floor right now. He's not starving, don't worry. It's just that at the stage he's at now babies learn by putting EVERYTHING in their mouth. I think with BF babies it's something they do more, as my niece only did this for a little while before she stopped, whereas my baby is still doing it at 7 months. You can keep trying to offer the pacifier, but don't be alarmed if he never takes it. Some babies just never like them, and some only take them for brief amounts of time.
