Birthcontrol and Metformin - Getting my Periods 2 weeks early.

Hello,

I am on yasminelle.  I have been taking it for roughly 6 months.  It seems fine.  I have previously been on other pills but was moved down to yaminelle in hopes it may assist me in loosing weight being one of the lower estrogen pills.  The first month I moved to it from Yasmin I had some spotting but the next 2 months were fine.

I am have now been prescribed with metformin/gylopphage.  I have been taking it for maybe 4/5 weeks.  I started at 500mg and now I am on 1500mg.  I am thankfully not getting any of the bad side effects.  However I have noticed that last month - about a week or two before I was due my period(taking my break week) I got my period.  The same thing has occurred this month.

I cannot afford to see a doctor at the moment, is this anything I should be concerned about or is this normal?  I am wondering if I should go back on one of my old contraceptive pills perhaps?

I currently taken 1500 mg of Metformin and was on birth control. I started on Loestrin FE and I found I would get double periods sort of. I would getting spotting for 3 days in week two but then my regualr period the last week. My doctor told me if it continued into month three call him. Well, it continued so he put me on Zovia 35 I think was the name. It was stronger than my other pills and I did have the double thing the first month but the second month was better and by the third month everything was back where it was supposed to be. If you weren't having this problem on a different BC then you may ask if he/she will prescribe that one again.

Hi there!

Though irregular periods are not expected while on the yasminelle, a couple of episodes should not be a reason for alarm. If this recurs, you may consider an evaluation by a gynaecologist to look for secondary issues such as hormonal/ endocrine imbalance, infections, growths/ masses etc. and suggestion of an appropriate management plan.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
