Insight would be helpful!

I have been diagnosed with PCOS.  They started me on Metformin for insulin restistance and I just finished my first cycle of Clomid.  I didn't have the results my doctor wanted so they want me to go directly to IUI treatment.  I have been reading a lot and noticed that most people do at least 3 cycles of Clomid before they have to try more invasive procedures.  The next cylce they want me to start is well over $5,000!  My husband and I are middle class and do not have that much excess money just laying around.  We do not yet own a home and our state insurance does not cover infertility at all!  ZERO percent!  Does anyone know why my doctor would just give up?  Has anyone else experienced this?  Please help!  I am in need of some insight from others like me.

Wow!  That is crazy!  I live in Milwaukee, WI so St. Louis still is not that far from us.  Thanks for the information!  I haven't done anything this cycle.  I figured we'd take a cycle off for some breathing and get back to everything next month.  Saving money is just so hard these days!  You have left over money and something always goes wrong and you need it.  Murphy's Law, I think!  Take care!

It's at attainivf.com, they have a map on there that shows where their clinics are located I live in IL 20 min from ST. louis, they have a clinic in st. louis.  I got lucky for once :).  Thats funny about your dream, I found a site (don't remember the name) after doing a google search on ivf vacaction , they compared different countries prices. Ukraine was the cheapest.  Funny thing is my husbands boss has clients in the ukraine and he goes there every other month. At least we would have a tour guide.

WOW!  My husband and I do not own a home, we rent, so we are now noticing how difficult it is to even get a loan for medical.  My nurse told me that the meds alone were $1,500 and then the cycle will be $3,541.95 for the injectables cycle.  I just think that is insane!  So, what site is it that offers the IVF plan?  I've never heard of that.  I know I've seen a few things for Chicago, ILL.  I live in Milwaukee, WI so that wouldn't be too out of the way for me, I guess.  But it's always much nicer to be close to home with things like this.  I did have a dream last night that I went to Mexico for IVF treatments.  Funny you mention the "IVF vacations"!

I'm not so sure my sanity has returned yet :).  I start injections next week so i can let you know how much they cost for follistim ( my insurance doesn't cover them either).  If you had any follicles with the clomid there is hope. I had no follicles just tiny cysts.  Also there is a site called attain IVF they offer up to three fresh transfers and three frozen so up to 6 attempts! at what they call a discounted price.  they have financing and if you don't have a live baby after your sixth try you get 70% of your money back.  that is definitely where i am going if injections don't work.  There is also "IVF vacations" to other countries where ivf is cheaper.

Thanks for the insight. My husband and I were talking about that also.  I only went through the one cycle of Clomid and then they did tell me something about injectables.  The medication alone is $1500 and then the ultrasounds and blood work... I'm new at all of this and it's just very frustrating.  You know how you think you are listening, but you must be in a different world... I think that's where I am right now!  IVF here is also about $10,000.  So they must be pushing me right to injectables.  I am not ovulating properly, I guess.  I did not have as many follicles as they expected with the Clomid.  Wow!  How did you go through 5 rounds of Clomid?  You must be going temporarily insane like me!  Good luck to you and thank you for your comment!

you can always get a second opinion.  are you sure she doesn't want you to do ivf?  IUI in my state is only $250-300.  IVF is close to $10,000.  Are you ovulating? Have you tried injecables?  I took 5 rounds of clomid and metformin with no ovulation and my next step is injectables not ivf.  I would talk to someone else.
