Many Problems

hi i am a 23 year old female that got her period at the age of 10. when i turned 13 i started getting extremely bad cramps with contractions like i was pregnant which i wasnt. my preiod would be very heavy and last anywhere from 2 weeks to a month. i visited several doctors and all they did was prescribe birth control pills to manage it which never worked.my period would be there for the whole month and only leave on the last seven pills when my period was actually supposed to come. at 15 i got a new doctor and she did an ultrasound and found i had 2 cysts on my left ovary and three on the right they said the birth control pills would clear it up and eventually the pain was not as bad and my period lasted 8 days every month. this lasted for about a year. eventually the pain came back as well as the heavy periods  i moved and got a new doctor that refused to listen to the issues i had and treated me as if i was a drug seeker even when i go to the emergency room they denied me service and i waited there for 10 hours in pain after the ambulance dropped me off and never got to see a doctor at age 18. recently the pain has gotten worse and my period gets so heavy that i put on a super plus tampon and an overnight pad and i bleed through it in 15 minutes and it started running down my legs so i tend to stay on the toilet till it passes and i have also been getting extremely large blood clots the size of a golf ball. my period usually stops for about three to five days out of the month. i have had the same boyfriend for 4 years and when possible we do have sex. we have tried it without a condom and when he ejaculates inside me it burns really bad and i also have excessive swelling when we have sex with or without the use of a condom, its so uncomfortable that i no longer have the desire to have sex because of the pain i get. i would like to know if there is anything i can do about any of my problems or what i may have. i know ovarian cancer runs in my family but my doctor is to concerned with fixing the symptoms than the actual problem that anything i say gets disregarded, all she does is change my birth control every 6 months to see if a different one will work. I just changed insurance to a ppo and i figure the best thing for me right now is to see if a doctor will perform a hysterectomy so i dont have to deal with this anymore which is very difficult because they say im too young and refuse. please if anyone can give me some suggestions or answers i would greatly appreciate it.

I have the exact opposite of your problem, but I get the same result. I rarely have periods and every doctor I've talked to just wants to give me birth control, but I refuse to take it. Honestly, I've given up trying to fix my issue because fixing it is more trouble than the problem itself, but I hope you don't give up.

Personally, I wouldn't go as far as a hysterectomy; you should suggest an IUD to the next doctor you talk to and hopefully they'll actually discuss the idea with you. The Mirena IUD is supposed to be really helpful with heavy, painful periods. Good luck.

A hysterectomy is really really really difficult to obtain at a young age. I have a friend who has been seeking one since 18 because of a genetic disease she has, she refuses to get pregnant. She's 23 now and her doctors are still saying, no you're gonna change your mind. Even my mother in law had difficulty obtaining one in her 30's for bad pms symptoms and cramps. I'm not saying it's impossible but that's what you're up against. Also the hysterectomy will only stop the period and cramping from the period. Besides possible hormonal influences I don't know if it would have any effect on your ovaries or prevent ovarian cysts. And I know it won't prevent ovarian cancer. If you're serious about a hysterectomy, I think the best way for you to get it is to possibly keep switching doctors. I have found that female doctors are typically more receptive to such problems. I also have found doctors sometimes need you to be assertive to really know how much you want the procedure. If you know what you want, don't stop until you get it.

As far as sex goes, have you mentioned that to your doctor? No amount of BC I know of will fix that symptom and she really needs to pay attention to it. Have you had any abnormal pap smears? Sometimes that can cause painful sex. However, it is also possible to be allergic to a guy's sperm, lubricants (even water based), and the spermicide in some condoms.  I would suggest to experiment a little to see if it's the lubricants you possibly use, the condoms, the guy, or the action, or a bizarre mix of any of them.
