New to PCOS

Hi everyone! I'm new to this group and I was just diagnosed with PCOS. My husband and I have been TTC for about 6 months and haven't gotten our BFP yet. My doctor prescribed me with Metformin. I guess I'm just wondering about side effects......also is there any food I should be eating or avoiding when on it? Any info would be GREATLY appreciated :)

thanks,
miss m

I also have PCOS and my doctor put me on both yaz and metformin.
He started me off on 1 tab a day for 1 week, then 2 a day for 2 weeks, followed by 3 tabs per day. On the second week of my 3 tabs per day, i realised that I couldn't handle the dosage. I felt lightheaded throughout the day, weak in the stomach, lost appetite...i literally had to force myself to eat which ended in me drinking Ensure. I felt cold constantly and even had cold sweats at night so there was a fluctuation of temperatures. There were times at work where I couldn't move because of how sick i felt.
Because it started affecting my worklife I went back to the doctor and he took me off the metformin. i am now only using Yaz and honestly i feel a lot better.
I gues metformin isn't for everyone.

I take 1000 mg a day.  I started taking metformin in November and took only 500 mg a day for the first two weeks.  I had three days of sudden loose bowels a few hours after taking it.  I take my pills on a full stomach and have not had any more side effects.

Hi,

I found out I had PCOS about a year ago.  Hopefully, if your like me, the doc started you off at a lower dose.  I think I started off at 1000 mg daily. Now, I am on 2000 mg a day.  When I first started, I kept an upset stomach and was lightheaded.  When you feel like you need to go to the bathroom, GO...LOL.  Most of the side effects and the PCOS symptoms have gotten a lot better. Now, I only notice my stomach getting upset more if I eat a lot of starchy food or sugar.  If you are over weight, it helps in shedding a few of those unwanted pounds.  My fiance' and I have been trying for that BIG BFP 2 years now.  My cycle have gotten better.  I'm going for the ovarian drilling next month and hopefully start clomid.  Hope I helped a little!  AND SSSSBD!!!!! :)
