Ovulation and PCOS

I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple months ago (August) After about 13 months of trying to get pregnant with no luck. I also had no period. My doctor said that it was likely due to me being on birth control for years, it kept my cycle normal. once I got off the birth control, my body lacked hormones to have a period. He put me on progesterone to start periods, so far I have needed it for two months to induce a period. Followed by chlomid on days 3-7 of my cycle. My question is when should I be having intercourse? I was told days 12, 14 and 16/ But since My cycles are irregular and I need meds to even have a cycle, how accurate is that? Should I be trying around days 10 and keep trying till day 18 just in case? I was warned against using the at home ovulation tests because of the PCOS. I do not want to get too stressed about this as that can just make things worse. I also do not want to be on to many rounds of the chlomid either. Also is there anything else I can do to increase chances of getting pregnant?

I was placed on metformin by my gyno even though I am nowhere near being diabetic. She informed me that metformin will help with the little chance there is for miscarriage. With having sexy time, from my understanding, just start having sex on day 10 and continue every other day until you either have a period or get a positive. That is what I am going to do.

Thank you for responding. I was told by my doctor to come in for an ultrasound on day 12, 14 or 16. To make sure I am ovulating. He also upped my dose of clomid. I asked about metformin. He said it was not needed because I am not even close to being diabetic.I hope the ultrasound generates good results.

Hi,
It is really difficult to predict ovulation in irregular cycles. But now as you are taking clomid, and want a fast conception, monitoring of ovulation can be done with the help of ultrasound scan. At the exact time of ovulation intercourse can be planned. For faster results IUI intra-uterine insemination can be done at the time of ovulation. Combining insulin-sensitizing agent like metformin with clomid can give excellent results.
The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
