PCOS

Hi there,

I'm a 19 year old girl who just found out this past week that i have PCOS!!! The doctor told me that if i excersise and eat healthy and take care of myself that i can keep everything under controll. I'm overwieght, but i'm working on losing some... it's really hard for me! As well like when i found this out i have no fancy for eating any type of food--i know bad!!!! I do eat just i don't want too! I'm really scarecd because i'm terrified that i can't have kids....

advise?

Tangled- WOW thank you so much that really did boost my confidence. I am making healthier decisions. I really hope that happens to me.

All vitamins are important for the body; when a woman wants to conceive, some may even help. Vitamin C is one of the vitamins in a prenatal vitamin. This is important for a woman's immune system and can help thwart any infections that may be hindering fertility. Additionally, Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant that helps keeps cells strong; this could help keep the eggs strong as women age.Vitamin B6 has been known to have some positive effects on the luteal phase of a womans cycle. Folic acid, while not considered a conception aid, is extremely important in the very early stages of a baby's development and therefore good for a woman to take when trying to conceive.

It's very possible to become pregnant. It might take a diet change and medication such as Clomid, but it can happen. I am 36 and have had untreated PCOS and type 2 diabetes for at least 10 years. My blood sugars were waaaaaaaaay out of control and my PCOS symptoms were severe. I didn't have periods and was infertile. I decided one day that I was tired of diabetes and would do something about it. I stopped eating and drinking sugar. Within 4 months my periods resumed, I got my diabetes under control and got pregnant without medical help. It can and does happen for many women with PCOS!

Prenatal vitamins will not help you get pregnant, they are good too take while pregnant and for those who are tying to become pregnant. As far as the food goes, check out the forum on here called "Healthy Cooking". Allot of good choices of receipes on there from a great group of people. Also, you can check out cooking.com and they have a section for cooking light. I love to plan my meals like weeks in advance. It helps to determine if what i chose is healthy. Also keep a food journel, so you can see what you are eating.

Thank you for the advice. My doctor has prescribed me anything yet, she said for me to start excersing and making better eating choice!! Yeah i do not like going to the gym at all, I'm lucky that my parents have a gym type thing in their basement so i've started going to their place and working out. By chance do you know any good diets? Or healthy meal-websites i could look up?

My doctor has put me on prenatal vitamins saying that will help increase my chance of getting pregnant! do you think that's right?

Are you taking any meds for your PCOS? If your having trouble with losing weight, then you may be insluin resistance (or maybe not). The common medication to take is Metformin. It helps with insluin levels and to lose weight. If your not big on going to a gym to work out, then I would suggest to try to take up walking atleast 30 mins a day, and maybe 60 on the weekends. Thats what I did and lost 50 +lbs. I take Meteformin 500mg 2X and it helps. Also, I understand with having no urge to eat healthy...espeacialy around the Holiday times. But, I would suggest to try to take up 5 small meals a day, which includes your normal breakfast, lunch and dinner plus 2 snacks. You can change it around if maybe you work long hours or go to school at different times, just don't exceide 6 meals. I have a journel on my page that is open to the public, that might give some ideas on food. I know it's way hard, but trust me the pay off is worth it!!! I love being able to buy clothes still in a size 18/20 instead of a 24/26.
