Weight Loss Stories

Hi everyone this is my first time on a website like this but i wanted to talk about it. I'm 13 years old in 8th grade, and i got diagnosed with PCOS over this past summer. It all started last school year when I started puberty. I was 114 pounds in the start of that 7th grade and now i am 140 pounds. You would think i was eating like a monster...i wasn't if anything i was eating like a rabbit and i was running about 3 miles everyday( because I'm really into track.)I got my period for the first time seventh grade year n November, i got it December, January, February, march never again or that year this past year i got one in Sept., October but never again. Right now i am on 2000 mg of metformin and 50 mg of synthroid. I'm following a very low carb diet, trying to drink as much water as possible and still exercising alot.. how long is this stupid process supposed to take!! please write back any suggestions you would have to me, and your success stories i would love to hear them:) thanks

Hmm... Now that I looked them up, I can see that.  How have your TSH levels been since beginning the thyroid medication?  Once those are balanced, you may start finding it easier to lose that weight.

You need carbs for your brain matter and nervous tissue.  Limiting any one food group is not good practice for weight loss.  The best way is portion control and exercise.  That way, you're developing healthy eating habits--not dieting--and lifestyle habits.  Dieting leads to splurging when you stop the diet because you haven't had something in so long, which leads to gaining the weight right back, which is REALLY bad for your body--worse than just keeping the weight and maintaining.  So, I strongly suggest portion control and exercise over dieting and exercise.  learning healthy portions will take some time.

There is a site that will help you track things and make sure you are meeting your nutritional needs and staying within your desired caloric range and not exceeding in certain things: choosemyplate.gov

It might be these meds will make it difficult and slow to lose weight, but if they are helping you with whatever condition, then it's definitely important to stay on them.  Were you on these meds when you gained all the weight?
