What will stop this

Okay I have been on my period for over a year now. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid and PCOS. I am currently taking Metformin to try to get me ovulating and regulate my period and my thyroid meds. It still is not stopping I've been on the thyroid meds for 8months and metformin since Aug 8th. I am calling the doc tomorrow to tell her my husband and I have decided to wait on having anymore kids and give me something to stop my period. Has anyone had this issue and if so what stopped it. I am so anemic and at this point I am going so heavy I cant leave the house. Thank you

Hi hun
First off sorry to hear that u have had a period for this long. The thing with PCOS is that is happens like that. I was bleeding for like 6 months straight and since I was TTC I didnt want to take birth control to stop it. But honestly thats about all that will help. The metformin also helped slow it down but not stop it. I was also once given Provera to stop it and that helped also. Provera is sometimes used to induce a period so what it did was it made my period stop then 5 days later it came back but my OB counted the come back as a period and we started taking the fertily meds. I guess I would see if your Dr would be willing to try the provera first. Sorry I know how it feels to have AF just for 5 days so I know how much it really ***** to have it longer!! Ill be praying for u SSBD!!!!

Can I ask why did you wait so long to contact your doctor? I bled for 1 whole month and couldn't go on anymore, how could you be bleeing for an entire year and not say anything? Also i want to point out, that a normal period lasts 3-8 days and anything over that is called irregular bleeding...not a period. I suggest you go on birth control because you need to give your body a break of all the bleeding. I would also suggest for you to get some bloodwork done to check your hormone levels and maybe an ultrasound as well. Metformin will not help you to ovulate if your bleeding all the time. I'm suprised in the fact that you are bleeding like this while on metformin because it is suppose to help with correcting the cycle.

You might also need Provera to stop the bleeding completly and then you could start on birth control.

if you have been on your period for over a year and are bleeding heavy enough that you cant leave your house you reallyt need to see your dr. That is not good for you. I have been on my period for 3 months before but it went away on its own. You should try taking birth control to stop your period and regulate it if you are planning on waiting to have more kids. Good luck
