I would definitely try to get in to see your doctor again. Spotting can be from many different things...the spotting may not be anything serious but I do agree that going that long without a period is not at all healthy for you. I also went more than a year without a period and the doctor would just tell me that it would come eventually. I have just started taking metformin recently and I know the side effects can be terrible but most report that after a few months your body adjusts to it. If you can't handle the metformin though I would still recommend talking to your doctor about your alternatives. My doctor kept prescribing provera for me to induce a period each month. With your period absent this long unfortunately I don't think it is likely to conceive without some help. If you are willing to try the metformin again there are things that you can try to help with your side effects...what were the worst side effects for you?
Good Luck. I hope you get your BFP.
Thank you very much, I had told my doctors about how long I have not seeing my period all they tell me is about Metformin. I really appreciate that info you gave me, I should take this more into consideration. I'm trying to conceive on my own, husband and I been trying without protection and nothing happens. Back a year ago, they put me in treatment which I stopped because of the money and nothing happened, I was put on Femara, and some injection.
Thanks again.
I'm not sure why you are spotting -- it happens to me to sometimes but I'm on BCP and it happens if I don't take it at the exact same hour every day. However, you should get that checked- if it's brown it means it is some old blood. Women with PCOS have a high risk for endometrium related problems: hyperplasia, cancer, endometriosis; if you do not ovulate the endometrium thickens and cannot shed...I think the fact that you've been missing your period for so long is to blame. Having you been trying to conceive during this whole time? It is not a good thing to let the absent periods go by like this. If you are trying to conceive you should talk to your doctor and maybe adjust the dose of Metformin, it is not working at low doses. Also, there are other drugs available, if Met won't work by itself - clomid is one of them. Anyway you should have your periods, it's not safe to stay without them because of the risk you are exposing yourself to.
