First off...I am sorry that the doctors are not really willing to help you. I know how that feels and I too know how it feels to be based upon weight.

I went to THREE different gyn's in my area. All of them said, well loose weight and you will be fine. That might be so, but I had a problem that needed to be fixed NOW. I was bleeding for an entire month, when I found another gyn who told me I most certainly had PCOS without even being tested. He said I had all the common symptoms and signs pointing to it. Well went through some bloodwork, and unltrasounds...and bloodwork confirmed it...I have PCOS. So, he worked with me. Told me yes I need to loose weight, but the bleeding needs to be controled first. Gave me Metformin, and another pill to stop bleeding. After 2 months of no bleeding...YAY! I went onto to birth control. I am still on it Metformin and birth control now...and last year I lost 62lbs (gained about 20 of that back). He too wanted to send me to a dietitian, but I declined and said I would control my weight myself.
So with help on loosing weight: Has your doctor given you any medications for your PCOS? I would suggest Metformin. It's meant for diabetes, but it helps with insulin levels in those who have PCOS EVEN if you are not insulin resistance (I'm not)...it still works!
Try 5 small healthy meals a day which includes 3 main meals and 2 snacks (sometimes 3, depending on your work hours). Try staying away from soda (even diet), breads, pastas, rice. I say it's really hard to cut out all CARBS (those are bad for us), but do try to limit them. Stick with tons of veggies and fruits (just watch the sugar intake on fruits, some are higher in carbs then others). If you must eat breads/pastas/rice, stick with whole wheat/whole graine. They are better for you and your body. Pick lean meats as your choice. Limit the amount of red meat, I go for more turkey or chicken over red meat. Pair a salad with your lunch and dinner. Hard boiled egg whites are great for breakfast (and good protien!).

You CAN loose weight if you put your mind to it. I always thought it was impossible too...especially with all the food options we have in this world! But honestly, once your health becomes affected by it...it's normally enough for most of us to do something about it. Ohh, and I'm not sure if you can take this...but if you can, I do reconmend Green Tea Extract pills. They are filled with EGCG (good for fat burning). I truely beleive they helped me with my weight loss. But please remember to check with your doctor before starting any new vitamins.

Good luck and if you need help...I'm always here.

P.S. When I first started out trying to loose weight, I tipped the scale at 333lbs...I went down to 270lbs to my all time low (and back now to about 285). So do not get depressed because you have a large amount of weight to loose. Always remember SLOW and STEADY. Shoot for 1-2lbs a week, if you do more..then great, if not then your still on track.
