I was started on 2000mg 2x's daily and it was a nightmare for 5 months, lost alot of weight but had terrible diarrhea several times a day and was soo dehydrated even with extreme fluid intake. My dose was increased little by little until I got to a dosage that I could tolerate. 500mgs daily. I had also tried Actos with no results and I am now on Clomid as well to help me ovulate. Everyone's body is different and what's good for one person may not be good for another.

I'm taking 1500mg per day and take 1 pill with each meal.  I work night shift and convert to days when I'm off so my meals don't always match up.  I find that skipping a pill will increase my risk of stomach upset so I have to take them will each meal.  I've also found that eating high carb fatty meals increases my stomach upset and nausea.  Sometimes I take only 250mg if I know I'll ony be able to snack instead of eat a full meal or if I have to be NPO for blood work.  I've been on Metformin since 1/2011 and my stomach upset has greatly decreased in severity, though in the beginning it was nearly unbearable.  Going out to eat made me want to cry because I'd eat and then feel sick after just a few bites.  That's when I started coupling it with an OTC digestive enzyme.  I also have IBS.  Now I get diarrhea maybe once a month and it usually coincides with the start of my period and eating dairy.  I know this is a lot to take in but what's worked for me to decrease the stomach problems is taking each pill with a meal, not skipping a pill no matter how I feel, using a digestive enzyme, and eating smaller lower carb meals.  I've also lost 20 lbs so far.

Did they put you on a low carb diet?  When they put me on actos plus meds they advised me that I should be on a low carb diet to avoid the upset stomach thing. Once I received my BFP they moved me to metformin and suggested that I stay on the low carb thing. You have no idea how bad I want some potatoes right now!  But it does help against the upset stomach.  I take two a day. I am now 7w4d pregnant. I hope this helps you.

Hi, I take 1500mg a day. it used to make me sick until I started taking 1 in the morning and 2 at night, that way if I do get sick I won't know cause I am asleep! Don't know if that would work for you but it never hurts to try. people do loose weight but you have to change your way of eating and dieting! I have lost weight but, not alot, but everyone is different, I also have cut out all sugars(sodas, candy ect) from my diet that also helps the metformin do its job! It does not help you conceive its supposed to help regulate your hormone levels and balance things out so that your body  will do what its supposed to do, what it does is hleps prevent M/C from happening.  Anyway hopes this helps! Good luck to you on your journey!
SSBD to you!
