The most embarrassing pregnancy symptom (hemorrhoids)...help!

That's right..the h word...hemorrhoids!  I didn't have this problem with my first child, until I actually delivered him and everything down there pretty much turned inside out.  Then, I had an external one for a couple weeks and used the tucks pads and ice packs.  This time, I have 5 1/2 weeks to go in my pregnancy, and I have an external one that just popped out the last few days.  It hurts to sit on and is sometimes itchy.  It is also hard and sore.  What's the best way to cure these darn things?  I have read old posts on the topic, but just wanted to see what you ladies have done.  I know I'm not the only one out there w/ this problem!  LOL  So far, I have used the preparation h cream, wiping with witch hazel on toilet paper (the active ingredient in the tucks pads) - but cheaper to just buy the bottle of it, letting warm water in shower run over it then using ice pack for 20 min. or so once a day.  It's mildly less sore, but definitely not feeling good.  I go to the doctor again on Tuesday and I will ask her then, but in the mean time - anyone have any good - and fast - solutions?  Thanks!

It is horrible!!!  I tried every cream, pad, ointment, pain reliever that is made OTC, on the market.  And then, of course, the prescription cream I mentioned.

Anyway, I am glad you are finding some sort of relief.  Keep us posted and again, if you have any questions, just let me know.

Take care!

Thanks for your help.  I'd love to get it removed forever!  That'd be awesome.  I am going to talk to my OB next week when I go in and see what she says to do.  I'll ask her about all the options y'all have suggested and tell her what I have tried already.  In the mean time, I'll keep doing what I'm doing - it is helping with giving a little relief at least.  I really appreciate the help.  This has got to be the worst pregnancy symptom - LOL

Oh Angela, I got this with my last baby (6th baby).  It was AWFUL!!!!  Didn't matter if I was sitting, standing, laying down or whatever.  Even had a hard time sleeping.  My doc prescribed a cream for me called Proctofoam, or something like that.  Your dr. would know what I was talking about just by saying that.  However, that didn't work for me.  I also tried everything else you have said, and then some.  I looked up home remedies online and everything.  When nothing would work, my OB/GYN sent me to see a General Surgeon.  I was 37 weeks along.  The General Surgeon said that I had two options.  One being what munter said.  He said, he could lance it.  He said it would probably relieve my immediate pain, but that the hemorrhoid could return again.  So he suggested surgery.  I intentionally didn't eat or drink anything that morning, just in case he suggested surgery.  So, I had the surgery done...that same morning.  The Surgeon said that a hemorrhoid could apprear somewhere else down there, but the one he removed surgically would be gone forever.

I am 23 weeks along this time and have a small one on the other side now.  Afraid once I get further along and am having lots of pressure from the baby, I will have to have this dang procedure done again.  I won't lie.  It hurts.  But the other pain was also unbearable and not going anywhere.  They will give you pain meds and they are safe so don't worry.  If you go this route or are thinking about it and have any questions, PM me anytime.

Be sure you talk to your doctor.  I am soooooo sorry!!!!

Your most welcome and yes it does sound scary but i too was woried about having to push out the baby and how much it would hurt with the hemroids. But i didn't think twice about getting it cut because it was so painful and i didn't want to have to wory bout holding back pushing because the hemroid hurt to much. And like i said the relief was instant. My midwife suggested it as she'd had it done when she had them. I'll keep watch on this post to see how you get on.
Good luck.

Eek!  Sounds scary...I will ask my OB/GYN on Tuesday to make sure that's OK w/ her and see if maybe even she can do that while I am there.  I do worry about the pushing in labor - I mean I don't want everything to explode!  LOL  Hopefully I can get that procedure before hand.  I need some relief!  Thanks for the advice. :-)

I've been there. My last pregnancy (my 3rd) i was 39 weeks pregnant and i got a hemoroid that was so painful that it hurt to sit down and to even walk. | used cream but until the baby was out the pressure wasn't going to stop pushing it out so my midwife suggested i got to my local doctor and she slit it and released the blood clot. This might sound really horrible and it hurt when she put in the neddle to numb it but honestly it gave me INSTANT relief and then when i had to push my son out in labour i had no problems at all. My son is now 19mths and i have had no problems with my hemroid. I suggest you get this done it was the best thing ever.
