Good advice isthatyoubob I wasn't suggesting anyone take anything while prego. But rather alternatives when not prego to antidepressants. I personally am 18 weeks and have taken nothing at all to keep baby healthy and safe and the mood swings and depression have been BAD. But my baby is more important than my moods.

Be careful about taking St. John's wort or other untested "herbal" drugs in pregnancy. They have not been tested and are unregulated for dose and ingredients compared to conventional antidepressants that have good data behind them. I'm afraid the "herbal" multinational drug companies are just as ruthless as the non herbal ones but the difference is the medical world /FDA can regulate the latter to some extent.  St. John's wort is a very powerful drug.

Well everyone has their opinion. Different things work for different people. I'm glad you found something that works for you.

I have struggled for most of my life with depression. I have taken 6 different antidepressants and xanex and had terrible withdrawal coming off and even sucidial thoughts. So I know from experience...sunshine, water, journaling, and Sam E, or St. Johns Wort are much better alternatives that work. If you research side effects and safety you will find they are not safe or a fix at all rather a bandaid solution.

Fyi mommy of three- As a nurse I can tell you-anti depressants are not addictive. They are narcotics or meds like Ativan or Xanex. And some people need to take them. I don't think you would encourage a diabetic to forgo their insulin would you?  Mental health issues are no different or any less real. To the Op- Hormones are crazy during pregnancy. I cry watching King Kong, lol. If you feel is excessive though,  talk to your doc. Congrats:)

They're only dangerous if you abuse them. Some people, myself included, have a chemical imbalance that they can't just make better by thinking happy thoughts and getting some sunshine. If you genuinely need anti-deptessants, they won't do any harm. Just make sure you discuss it with your doctor.

I didn't take my anti-deptessants with my first child and I was a wreck the whole time, but I didn't want to hurt baby in any way. I also didn't talk to anyone about what I was going through. I'm only taking them now in my 2nd trimester because I feel it won't harm baby's growth and development. I'll stop for the 3rd, just in case.
I don't feel ashamed for taking a pill to help with my depression. But I agree that people need to do it responsibly.
Anyway, that's my story.

Antidepressants are very dangerous and very addictive. I would be terribly afraid to take any during pregnancy.

Me too. I was angry and so irritable. My doc prescribed a low dose of Zoloft, (it's approved by Pedestrians). I felt better almost immediately. Ask your doctor for help, even if you don't have an appt soon, just call tomorrow. It's not good for you or baby to be a mess.
The only thing is it can cause some problems in your 3rd trimester, but I plan on taking myself off so baby grows healthy and doesn't
go through withdrawl. I'm hopeful that my hormones will be more balance by then.
Anyway, good luck. I really hope you feel better soon.

Me too! I am also 16 weeks, I cry over the strangest things. Last night it was because I was enjoying my dinner so much, they were tears of appreciation. This is my first pregnancy so I cant tell you when it will end but I can sympathize!
