Anybody have problems with their cat peeing on the couch when they brought their baby home?

Hi Ladies...strange place for this question lol.  I have a 1 month old baby and shortly after bringing him home, the cat started to poop on the bed.  I could deal with that, it was just more laundry.  This morning, my 11 yr old cat peed on the couch.  #1 I have no idea how to get the smell out of the couch.  #2 when hubby finds out he'll likely want to look into options of animal rescue.  I think she may be jealous but am not sure how to deal with it.

Any help would be greatful!

Thanks a bunch :)

Try soaking the spot with one of the products available for this purpose from the pet-supply store or vet, they're called either Nature's Miracle or Urine-Out or other names of that type.  Let the product sit a while and then vacuum it out with a wet-dry vacuum (like a Shop-vac).  Then wash with soapy water and vacuum it out again with the wet vac.  That will take care of clean-up but you will still have to deal with the cat.

Cats spray and pee inappropriately if they have a urinary tract infection or if they are feeling displaced.  If you're sure it's not a UTI, then the latter is probably the case.  It's like a graffiti artist who sees someone else has come along and tagged on top of his tag -- he's gotta tag on top of that to show he's still vital.  There are a lot of guesses about how to get kitty to stop.  We had pretty good luck with boarding the cat for five days, then bringing her home and giving her tons of attention.  She was so glad we let her come home that she behaved herself.  But every cat will be different.  Do try to let her know she's still your beloved kitty, and try the Feliway, and also try limiting her access to the places where a poop or pee would be a disaster.  It's tough with an 11-year-old cat.

I had and am having the same problem with one of my cats.  It is highly frustrating.  She is super jealous I think.  I agree with the Feliway, we are now using it as well.

Thanks!  I've been emailing upholstry cleaning companies to get quotes to get it professionally done.  She peed right where the seat cushion meets the back part of it so it's right in the back, crevice, and seat cushion.  Apart from soking the whole thing down I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it out.   It doesn't help that hubby teases the cat...she peed within 2 minutes of him going to bed right after he teased her.  of course he won't see how he had anything to go with it.  I try to explain that teasing her will only make her upset and act out.  NOW LOOK!  Well, hopefully this will be what it takes to get him to leave the cat alone lol.

Our older cat - 10 years old - started to pee all over the house in January when I was in my 2nd trimester. It also started with a poop on the bed! I believe he knew I was pregnant. He has kept peeing here and there since then, before and after the birth of our baby (almost 7 weeks old). He also peed on 2 sofas. The best to clean them is a mixture of bubbling water (ex Perrier) and white vinegar - try a little bit on a small hidden part of the couch first to make sure it won't kill the colors.

Also the best is to use a canister of Feliway plug in (pheromones): you plug it in the wall in the area where he pees. Buy that at Petco or Petsmart (Feliway is the best brand). I can't use that because I am afraid my asthma will flare up but that's really the best thing to try to make your cat less anxious.

And make sure to spend some time with your cat, pet him as much as you can so he does not feel rejected.

Good luck... I hope you keep your cat!!
