Bleeding at 5 weeks..

I am 43 and 5 weeks pregnant tomorrow but yesterday evening I started bleeding a little, this continued through the night and I am still bleeding at the moment. To me it is like having a period just not so heavy and I am not in any pain, just feel heavy. I have also passed a few clots but nothing big.

It looks like I had a false positive on a digital pregnancy test, just as my period was due or a chemical pregnancy. Whatever the bleeding is my period and I took another digital test and it came up not pregnant, the midwife said that it was probably my period and just to retest in two weeks to confirm that I am not pregnant so rather disappointed but life goes on...

i would definitely call the doctor today. Bleeding while pregnant can be common and be totally fine but it can also signify a pending miscarriage. When you go to the doctor they will probably give you an ultrasound and take some blood to monitor your hcg level. I am sorry your going through this and best of luck!

Sadly that sounds like when I had my miscarriage.  I had a lighter than usual period like bleeding that lasted 6-8 wks.  It was longer then I had even been pregnant. There wasn't any pain with it at all.  and it took over a year and 2 specialist to get my body back to normal. They actually figured out over a year later that I should have had a D&C done and that there was something still there that didn't get fully discarded naturally.   it only came out after I had a HSG done and within a month of that I was pregnant again.

I would call your dr for sure.  I know I went to her first and she referred me to an ob.  if they can't get you in right away then they will tell you to go to emerge.    I hope you have better luck than I did.

I would go to the hospital. Bleeding is not abnormal in some women, but the heaviness and the clots are signs of possible miscarriage. At least they can tell you if you're in active miscarriage...if they don't tell you, ask if your cervix is open or closed. If its closed, it means you're not actively miscarrying. This happened to me, though not heavy or with clots, and they said that when you bleed in pregnancy it means your chance of miscarriage is about 50/50.
