Thanks for the sad story! Man, I would have such a hard time dealing with mosquitoes. If I were you, I would probably call a Salt Lake City exterminator the first chance I got! I mean, it really makes perfect sense.
Actually Amy, it doesn't matter anymore anyway, but your response is maybe a bit over the top? We actually are moving now, but many women live in the city I LIVE in, and we happen to have a lot of mosquitoes here. Somehow they manage to also have healthy babies...SO FOR NINE STICKIN MONTHS as you put it, I would almost have to leave the province. And as it turns out there are several non chemical options, which is what i was looking for,
My OB said ones that are DEET-free. Most of the bug sprays that are DEET free are 'family" kind. I didn't look yet to buy any yet but will have to. The mosquitos love me way too much.
We are not made to fear everything, YOU SHOULD FEAR CHEMICALS WHILE PREGNANT! No one knows the causes of all this autism, yet we continue to pump ourselves with toxins and then ask why all the cancer, why all the retardation, why all the health problems. As a school teacher, I see all the birth defects. I don't know what's to blame, but for nine stinking months out of your life could you just make a sacrifice! How about, don't go where there are so many bugs if you're so allergic! I didn't even wear deodorant while pregnant, and I live in South Florida. No sunblock, no perfume, no fragrances, no msg. My baby was born super healthy. Maybe it had nothing to do with it, but If she had been unhealthy, I'd hate to always wonder, "Did I cause that?"
One lady makes some homemade insect repellent and sells it online:

But this link below tells us how we can do it ourselves... pretty simple and all
easy to get ingredients.

Maybe this will help! :)
sorry...I have no idea. The best thing is to talk to your doctor about it. It's probably best that you use a bugspray then getting an allergic reaction to a bite. If it was me, I would go ahead and use some if I were you but that's just me. I think we are made to fear everything unecessarely while pregnant. Of course, don't take drugs, some medication, alcohol..but bug spray I would think is safe. I'm sure our moms used bug spray when needed while pregnant with us...
wow... sorry to hear you have to deal with bugs.. but I have read... I think queen of clean... not sure, but if you put a fabric softner in your pocket.. it repels misquitoes etc... I havent tried it ... but go ahead and try it..... it cant hurt.
