I had trouble at first. I use Answer OPK. There is a pink test line and a pink LH line. I didn't get anything the first few months. I think I was starting too late (around day 10 or 11). I had to start on 7 or 8 to catch mine because it comes so early most of the time (day 9 or 10). I've been getting good results the past couple of months now. When do you start testing?
Just gave this answer to someone else:
I have the Clearblue digital one that I paid $100 2 years ago (http://www.babyhopes.com/clearblue-easy-fertility-monitor-kit.html), can be found at RiteAid and Walgreen or on their website. Very convenient (3 readings: low, high = ovulation coming, peak = ovulation day) and always very reliable no matter the length of my cycles - after my 1st miscarriage my cycles yo-yoed from 25 to 35 days, that's when I bought the montitor.
I will add: I like the fact that this monitor gives you a high reading when your ovulation is on its way but not completely here (it keeps in memory your previous cycles), simple ovulation sticks do not do that and if you have a very quick ovulation, it will help!
I loved LH predictor kits, but had a lot of trouble using the brands where I had to decipher which line was darker. I switched to the ClearBlue digital easy (smiley face or no smiley face) and found them the easiest to use. They are a bit pricier, but it was worth it. That being said, is it possible you are missing your surge? Perhaps you are O'ing earlier then you think and starting testing too late? Another possibility is that you are one of those women who ovulates very quickly after her surge and need to test twice a day to catch it. How long are your cycles and which day do you typically begin testing on?
Hi Susannah
I only ever used 2 ovulation kits and they never showed an LH Surge for me either. I used one about 5 months ago and another one 2 months ago. I just got married 3 months ago for the first time and we have been trying to conceive for about 5 months. I am 40 years old and we are now seeing a fertility doctor. I live in Canada. We are going this Wednesday to receive all our results from all the tests they have done so far.. I"m sorry I don't have any more insight for you because I'm new at this also. Just wanted to say good luck!! You were ever told what your FSH levels were?
