Clomid - Provera

I try not to have to take medication/drugs as much as possible, but since I just turned 36, I know my time for having another child is deminishing, (already have a 6 year old).  I have been trying to concieve since Jan 2008, which I had a very very early miscarriage at the end of January, and since then, have only had one period, (I have always been irregular, every 40-75days).  All my hormones are within normal range, some normal high, but the doctor is going to have me take Clomid.  My question is, since I am not having a period, he wants me to take Provera to induce a period, so I can start taking the Clomid...is it necessary to take the Provera, or can I just request to start taking the Clomid.  Also last quick question...Why do some doctors want you to take the Clomid on the 3rd day of your period, and others on the 5th day...any significant reason.  Thanks for your time, Michelle

I had to take provera to start my period.  Its important for your uterine lining to shed and become the right thickness for supporting a pg. If your lining gets too thick, as in my case, it can lead to uterine cancer.   I would def take the provera to help your lining shed.   Your first af on provera might be pretty heavy and long, at least this is what happened to me since I had not had a period (wasn't ov) for several months. I did have bleeding some months but it was considered anovulation bleeding, not a true period and thus my lining was not shedding.

My lining reached the right thickness and Im now 10wks pg!  I saw an RE and was on Clomid (starting day 3 and one month started day 5 b/c i was out of town for my 3 day labs), bravelle shots and a trigger shot.  My second IUI worked.  I am not sure what the difference is between day 3 or day 5.  I don't think there is too much but check with your doctor.

Good luck!  You may also want to post on the fertility forum, if you haven't already.
