16 weeks and AF type cramps - Help!

Hi everyone,

I had a little bit of a scare last sunday, where I had some cramping in the morning, which stopped, but then started again in the afternoon. They weren't very strong at all, but very regular every few minutes or so, which kinda scared me a bit. The actual cramps only lasted about a second or two each time. After emptying my bladder and drinking some water I lied down on my side to see if it went away...it didn't. I had several more mild cramps, but then fell asleep and when waking up they were gone.

The following morning, I called my obgyn and talked to one of the nurses, who said it could be premature labor and to make sure I call if it happens again. Well, it did today. But this time, I'm not sure if it's just gas. The cramps seem to be on regular intervals again, but I can also feel and hear air bubbles in there once in a while.

So here's my question, should I call and go in and have it checked out, or am I just being silly and it's only gas pain?

Thank you guys so much for replying! I'm so sorry I left you all hanging...but I'm OK! The cramps stopped a couple of hours after I posted this. I did contact my obgyn and talked to his nurse, she said if more than 6 AF-type cramps in an hour (so about every 10 minutes or less), I need to go to the ER. (I guess it's the ER before 20 weeks and L&D after.) Basically they would need to monitor me in a hospital setting if that happens again, in case it is in fact contractions. I guess cramps can be normal, but not on a regular interval like that. Thankfully, though, the cramps subsided as I was waiting for the nurse to call me back (I was suppose to count for 30 minutes to see how often they were coming). So hopefully that won't happen again. I've been instructed to take it easy, stay out of the heat and drink lots of water to help keep the cramps from coming back! So that's what I'm doing...

Thanks again, everyone!

Heather :-)

Go see the dr. or go to the emergency room. Just to be on the safe side.  But they (dr.s) may discover that it's round ligament pain.  I just experienced what I thought was Braxton Hicks regularly and pain that was nearly unbearable.  It went away after 1 week.  it was very scary. It was round ligament pain. I was just turning 17 weeks.

So how are you feeling now? Did you go in or did the feeling pass again?  No pun intended :)

Better be safe than be sorry.. YES.. call your doctor and go in to have u/s.  insurance pay for it anyway...

little thing can scare us to death... so anything you don't feel comfortable or normal... call your doctor and request to go in... if they said it's okay.. and you still feel not okay.. then go to ER for check up... At least you can see through u/s to see baby is fine to give you peace of mine.

Take care of yourself and you will be in my prayer..

I'm 15 wks tomorrow, and I have mild cramping almost all the time - usually when I have a full bladder, but also when I'm constipated (which is every single day).  I hear it's totally normal, too.  But, of course, I'd be freaking out if a nurse said it could be premature labor.  Now, I'm wondering if I should be calling?!  My cramping actually consists of tightening of the muscles, too.  Weird, but I remember this with DS and with a full bladder, too.  So, do whatever you think is best at this point to ease your mind.  If it's going into L&D or the ER, go and ease your mind.  I'm sure they will ease it for you, and you'll be reassured everything is fine.  Good luck to you!

I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and I have mild cramping all the time!  My OB said it's most likely a full bladder or my uterus stretching.  Call your OB though if you're still nervous.

You're not being silly, but I think you're going to be ok.  Cramping is normal throughout your entire pregnancy.  As long as you are not doubled over in pain, and have a bloody show.  Also, because they come and go, this is a normal symptom.  Of course if you are concerned, call your OB and see if you can be seen, but I'm sure you will be told that there is nothing to be alarmed about.  Best wishes to you, and congratulations!
