Femara, Gonal F and Ovidrel

Hi everyone

Saw the Dr today and were told that we do in fact have unexplained fertility.  He recommended Femara x 5 days starting tonight. Then overlap with Gonal F injections starting day 6, then when follicles are mature, Ovidrel injection and IUI x 2.  Then if pregnancy I'll take Progesterone for the first while (can't remember how long)

Has anyone done something similar? Just curious.

I'm 39 so he said this is the best way and We should try for 3 cycles.

Hope this works!!

Hi,

I did my 3rd IUI using Femara for 5 days, then trigger on Day 11.  I am  now 6 weeks pregnant.  I just turned 40.

My first and second IUIs I did on clomid.  The first no luck.  Then second I got pregnant but very early miscarriage.

Have they checked out your hubby and made sure all is good with him?

Best wishes

Hi All,

This is my first post to one of these blogs, although I've read many of them and always look forward to seeing updates from everyone.  I am 35 and my situation is slightly different, although not too different since all of us have the same goal:  To get pregnant and have a healthy, happy baby!  I've been able to get pregnant and have been pregnant 3 times within the last 2 years, but they all have ended in miscarriage at 8-9 weeks.  Since my last miscarriage at the end of 2009, my cycle has been all over the place and I haven't been able to get pregnant despite trying for the last 7 months.  As hard as it's been to get pregnant this time around, the thought that the hard part (sustaining the pregnancy) won't begin for me until I actually do get pregnant scares me.  Since I am 35, I didn't want to wait and take too much time trying to get pregnant naturally, so my Dr. had me try a cycle of Femara (Days 3-7), Follistim (Days 6, 8, 10) in June, then I triggered and had an IUI 38 hours later and started Progesterone the next night.  It was unsuccessful.  I took a couple of cycles off from medication and decided to try it again this month.  I had 3 good sized follicles after the Femara and Follistim, then triggered Saturday night and had the IUI Monday (38 hours later).  Now it's the torturous 2 weeks of waiting!!!  Wish us luck!  I wish all of you the best of luck too.  Stay positive and remember that it WILL happen for all of us... Congratulations to Ecologic!!

I know what you mean!! Except my DH is the opposite!  I was the one that was leary of the treatments b/c of side effects etc... He was very up to trying anything if it speeds things up!

Where are you at in your cycle now?  Good luck and keep us posted!

I have to give myself my first injection tonight! A little scared but not too bad.  Hope it goes well!!

I have done a similar regimen.  I am 39.  I have unexplained infertility.  But my issue is slightly different because I also have unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss.  We seem to get pregnant pretty easily but cannot keep it.

I am on my second IUI right now.  First one didn't work (no pregnancy).  We are doing Femara cd 3-7, Bravelle (that's your "overlapping injection" as you called it) on cd 7 and cd 9, then we do us to measure follies.  When they look good we trigger with 5,000 HCG injection for ovulation and IUI 36 hours later.  I also do another 2,500 HCG injection 3 days after trigger and start progesterone suppositories (200 mg twice daily).  Then I do  third 2,500 HCG injection 3 days after that.

My protocol is slightly different due to the rpl (recurrent pregnancy loss).

My DH is convinced none of this fertility stuff is going to work.  But we have agreed to do 3 or 4 IUI then try one IVF.

It sounds like your RE is doing some pretty standard stuff.  I think in our "mystery" category that's about all you can do.

What is particularly amazing to me is how many girls get pregnant naturally after trying all this crazy stuff.  My friend did 4 IUIs and one IVF, then got pregnant on her own without one single pill or anything from fertility.

Anyway-  good luck and let us know how it goes.

Wow!  That's a very happy ending! I'm so excited for you!!  So true. With unexplained infertility a lot of times I'm sure it's just a matter of time.  Were just older and not as fertile!  The Dr said to me that we could keep trying but it's more likely if we  help things along considering that I am 39.  I also would love to have 2 babies if possible!

Well hopefully it works on the first cycle for us. I'll think positively!!!

Yes I was finally successful... naturally - at almost 41! I am now 32 weeks pregnant.

I suffered from unexplained infertility for 2 years - everything looked OK but I could not get pregnant. We then did 5 IUI cycles (3 Clomid, 2 Follistim) and none of them worked. Late 2007 we did an IVF and I got pregnant but miscarried. The IVF nevertheless seemed to have triggered something as I finally was able to get pregnant naturally: 2 miscarriages and then my current pregnancy. Altogether it took me 4 years to get a viable pregnancy - a long battle but a worthy one!!

Don't give up hope, our bodies have mysterious ways to work sometimes!!

I had something similar a few years ago (Follistim, Ovidrel, progesterone) with IUI for 2 cycles and for me unfortunately it did nothing. Everything looked good but nothing happened.
Good luck!
