Generic HPT's

Good morning ladies!! What are your takes on store brand HPT"S? Also, how accurate are the FRER for ALL woman? What I mean is...IF I take the FRER today (AF due on Sunday) and it is negative, does that mean I am automatically NOT pregnant or does it mean that FOR ME it is still too early to tell? Now I know if I take it on Sunday or Monday it would be accurate because Sunday is when I am due. I am so desperate this month more than ever because I don't know if I will continue to "Try" after this. I feel broken...like I can't accomplish this simple little thing at 40 but had no problems when I was younger. I didn't even "try" back then. I also wasn't "doing it" any where close to what I do now...lol. I am perfectly healthy and all my parts are in working order...I am sooo frustrated. I commend all you ladies who have been at this longer than me. I guess I'm just not as strong as all of you!!  How do you bare it each month when it doesn't happen??? OK I am done with my pity party!!!  Have a great day ladies...XOXOXO

It's nice to know that we aren't THAT weird!!!! Others do the same! The dollar store ones have been known to show BFP as soon as day after implantation but every woman is different so ..... as far as I am concerned a BFN is only at that moment..... Until AF arrives, there is always a chance! Last cycle I went through 6 of them! but at $6 I still saved huge over $15 for one test! I see it this way. Test as much as I want with the cheapies and then use the expensive one to confirm. This way I can spend more on books that I can read but not even think about using until I am actually preggo! I got one the other day on baby's first year!!!! It will definately be a while before that one gets used! I am obsessed for sure. I think waiting until I was 38 to start trying for my first has a hand at making me anxious.

I found this site www.peeonastick.com/hpts.html to be very helpful. It tells the sensitivity rating of HPT's but also shows lowest sensitivity reported by women that tested positive and followed up with a blood HcG the same day and know their results. Notice that the FRER with the older rectangular window is rated at 12.5 and got results less than 5 but it was unreliable but the newer version with the oval window is 25! New Choice, the dollar store brand is also rated at 25 but can detect as low as 7! Basically, they are comparable in sensitivity. Sorry, I was off for a couple of days!

Thanks so much for your responses. I am so glad it's not just me that acts that way. Will the dollar store one work before AF is due. Like now if I wanted to take it would it show up. AF is due on Sunday. She can tend to be early or late depending on the month. March was 2 days late and February was 3 days early. Usually it is right on time. I guess it can't hurt to try now...it is only $1 if it's negative then I still have hope with a FR on Monday morning. I would wait til the day after it's due only to convince myself that a test is definitely accurate then. I try to make excuses like that to hang on to hope that the negative is wrong and I just did it too early...lol. Unfortunately I've been wrong and the tests are always right. I will keep my fingers crossed for you too sweetie and HOPEFULLY SOON...we will both be announcing our BFP!!! Keep in touch with how you are doing.  Oh btw...my DBF and I do the same thing with my tummy. He talks to it and says "come on little girl...daddy wants to see you" it breaks my heart!!!  We want a girl...is that obvious!! Naturally I will be happy with whatever God gives me...but I'd like to think that God loves me enough not to make me have to deal with another boy...There are six of them between my DBF and me and only 2 girls. LOL!! I will get my girl...I believe that!!  Lots of luck to you XOXOXO

Oh, I also have been using the Dollar store brand and will save the $14 FR tests for verification. I found a website that says that dollar store brand are sensitive to 20 which is the same as FR but the have had positive results as low as 8! For $1 how can you go wrong?

I am in the same boat. I have purchased books and started window shopping for stuff just anticipating and I keep coming up BFN!!!!! It is heartbreaking! My DBF probably thinks I am insane doing things that I probably shouldn't be doing until I get a BFP but I just can't wait. I talk to my stomach all the time and we both spend time with our hands on my tummy as if comforting a baby that isn't there! LOL. I am surely losing my mind! I will keep going and I am determined but each month with each ensuing BFN I get even more emotional than the month before. Hugs to you. We will make it!!!!!  I have been keeping a journal all along so my little one will know that I tried and tried and that he/she was REALLY wanted.

i would "swear" by them... but i do know that the dollar store brand does pick up pretty early at least with me anyhow... i got a faint line at 9 dpo... which for ME was 7 days before my expected period.

and NO that is sooo NOT corny... i think it is sweet, and then when you do conceive you can keep the journal up of your pregnancy journal and that is a great gift to your child when they are married or graduate college or whatever... i know sounds like a long time from now... but if you keep writing in this journal for them... you can put down ALL of thier milestones and it would be worth it's weight in gold.

i have tried to even do a baby book for my kids... and it just has never happened the way i imagined... maybe you have more staying power for that type of thing than i have...lol
good luck and let us know what you find out when you test... my fingers and toes are crossed for you.

Thanks again to all of you. I didn't mean to sound like a cry baby. Your answers were all very helpful and I appreciate it. I still haven't decided if I am going to give up...probably not but I get myself so worked up about it, feel sorry for myself and then it's over. Kind of like a child having a temper tantrum...lol! I think I will just wait until Monday to take the test...then I know it's accurate. Thanks so much for dealing with a cranky witch! I feel better now and I will just pray that I had a "good" egg!! I have been talking to this pre-conceived child for a long time now...maybe s/he is tired of hearing me and finally decided.."OK, this lady isn't so bad, I think I'll try her out for my mom!!" I even have a journal to her/him so s/he can read about it when s/he grows up. Corny right??? I'll let ya's know one way or another. :)

The Frer website says this: "In clinical research, FIRST RESPONSE® Early Result Pregnancy Test detected the hormone level in 69% of women four days before their expected period (which is five days sooner than the day of their missed period), in 83% of women three days before their expected period, in 93% of women two days before their expected period, in 93% of women one day before their expected period."
So no, a neg today would not necessarily mean a definite neg. You'd have to retest to know for sure.

And...You are strong! You have been enduring disappointments. That's not easy.  I'm in the same boat. I know it's hard not to think of yourself as "not being able to accomplish this simple little thing" but that's just not true! It's not all up to you and that's the tough part. It's not as though it's all in your hands and you are failing hun. It's about which month dear old mama nature decides you are going to release that good egg. If you are ready to stop trying, that's ok. If you want to keep going, then keep on trucking! You do have strength and lean on that strength from other people who care too. Good luck with this next HPT. I'm hoping for that BFP for you.
XOXO

FRER is very accurate and it detects hcg at very low levels....once I tested positive with it and had the blood test....the FRER was picking up hcg at 9....very low #!.    So to answer you question...it's hard to say because it all depends on how long it took egg to go though fallopian tube, float around in uterus, implant and then produce enought hcg in your system....days on this vary.   In general the embryo will do this with 10 days.   However for some reason if it implants and CD10 you may not get an hcg reading until CD 13, for example.....So just because you don't test positive today you could very well test positive on Sunday.

Historically I got positive results using FRER CD11 or CD12, but that's just me.  So I would of course test again on CD 14.   You may get a positive result.

I don't have a problem with the store brand HPTs....and completely trust them, but I've got earlier results using FRER.

:0(  Don't be so down.  It always takes me months of trying to get pregnant.  When I get BFN's it just gets me geared up for the next month.  I always got my BFP's 2 days before my AF, 12dpo, (with the exception of this last one, 4 days) but BIG exception! So, take the test, just because I would, LOL... But don't be disappointed until you get your AF, and that's an order :0)  Good Luck and have a nice day (post your results though)
