I finally had my appointment with my OBGYN...She was so nice and kind. A whole diifferent experience than my previouse male doctor. She answered all my questions, and reasured me when I was in doubt. Even did an extra series of blood work, because I was concern. So I'm really happy with her and the staff in her office.
Thanks again for you imput.!
Thank you all for your imput..! My last OBGYN was a male, but I have no experience with a woman. Now, I contacted the insurance company and they set me up with female OBGYN, so I'll let you guys know how I felt.
Thanks again!
I was thinking more about this today, and although both the OB's I have worked with are excellent, I do think the female was better able to relate to me. However, I think that is primarily because she too had multiple miscarriages prior to having her children in her 40's. So there was a bit of a kindred spirit there. Again, I loved both of them, but she understood a lot better what I was dealing with emotionally.
I personally prefer female obgyn. I've had experiences with both and I must say the female docs are a lot more compassionate and understanding to your feelings. They address your concerns and take time because they are women themselves. Not to say that male docs are not, I just believe women give you extra. The male docs that ive had were very good docs, but had very bad bedside manners. According to what ive experienced, that's my opinion. Id say do some homework on the docs themselves and check on how well they work as an obgyn/background-experience/and personality.
personal preference, I think. I prefer seeing a female doc, but I have gone to a male OB before. Sometimes I have to think, if you were male, why would being an OBGYN be your choice of practice? I know it's very professional, and I've never had a bad experience, just something I've always wondered. :)
I agree that it also depends on who you feel comfortable with on a personality level. The U/S tech at my doc's office is female, but also the least warm and fuzzy woman I have ever met!
Have you ever considered a Nurse Practitioner? They usually work with the MD's and are usually great- and they are more personable too. I actually go to one but recently, I saw my sister's OBGYN, who works in the same office and he is very nice and I felt comfortable with him. Ive encountered some rather bitchy female doctors over the years and I almost prefer a male now, but I do feel a little less strange with a female NP or MD when it comes to gyn stuff.
no preference here...just need to find someone you are comfortable with
I go to a male and absolutely love him. He is the sweetest man ever. For my previous children I had a male for one and a female for the other and actually preferred the male
I think that is a personal preference. When I lived in Regina, my OB was a male. Here in Calgary it's a female. Both of them were/are excellent and had stellar reputations as being amongst the best in the cities they worked in. I know some feel far more comfortable with a women. To me it wasn't a big deal. Up to you. Good luck in your search.
