TTC after m/c

Hi ladies.  I'm 40 years old and am TTC after m/c at 6 weeks back in Feb. This was my first pregnancy and wasn't planned but very welcomed. Now, I'm dealing with all of the pressure of TTC and I'm worried that it might not ever happen again.  We've only been TTC for two cycles now, but I keep hearing my biological clock ticking.  It is kind of ironic that I got prego the first time without really trying and now that I'm trying I feel like it is never going to happen.  I've read a lot of your stories on this website and I'm hoping that some of you might have some advice to keep me from obsessing on all the negatives about trying to get prego at age 40.

Hi and thanks for sharing your story!

I'm 35 and have had 3 m/c's, within the past 3yrs. I am mother of 2 DS's that are in their teens, and the reason for the m/c's is old ovaries. Since it's been 15yrs since I've had a child, the DR's tell me, it's almost as if I've NEVER had one. So essentially I guess I shoud've had one in between to keep my ovaries working. This past month was our first month TTC since my last m/c in Jan, and it's the first time I used Prometrium, which is a progesterone supplement. I got a BFN, but I would say we didn't really try like we should have(only BD 2x while ovulating). I'm looking forward to REALLY trying this month, and maybe becoming a Feb09 mommy! Maybe you will be one as well!

You should force the issue on getting ANY/ALL tests you can possibly take to see why you miscarried. I know from experience they expect you to have 3 m/c's before they do any testing, so MAKE them do it! You don't want to go thru it more than once.

adgal & lisaywg-send that babydust our way! :)

Thank you both for your encouraging posts.  It's nice to know that I'm not the only one going through this.  I'm definately going to use OPKs this month and hopefully pinpoint O.  Congrats to both of you on your pregnancies.

I'm 36 so close to your age.  I had a miscarriage in November at 12 1/2 weeks (there was an empty sac - it was my first pregnancy).  I had a D&C right away and was told to wait one cycle before trying again.  I conceived again in February and am now just over 13 weeks pregnant.  I had an ultrasound last week and baby is looking great.  TTC is hard after a miscarriage when you want it so badly.  I bet it will happen for you soon!  Good luck!

Well, I am only 1 year younger then you, and was in exactly the same postion as you.  I lost my first pregnancy in Jan, it ended with a D&C in feb.  I was almost 10 weeks.  I also had a positive HPT in late march that ended very very quickly (2 days after test), and here I am again, about 4 1/2 weeks pregnant again.  A few of the things I have learned is that many Dr.s don't want to run the tests such as progesterone, FSH, etc unless you have experienced 2 or 3 m/c.  I really pushed the issue as I didn't feel I had that kind of time, nor could I deal with another m/c without knowing everything possible was done.  In order to conceive, I used an ovulation kit.  If you are going to use one, invest in a decent one.  I like the clear blue digital, its easy to use and easy to read.  I now swear by it.  And believe that you did it before, you can do it again.  There are so many women now getting pregnant late 30s and 40s, it is really really common.  There really aren't any negatives except a slightly higher risk of downs, etc.  But you can test for that if you choose too.  I chose to wait until now to start my family, as for my husband and I, it was what worked.  I personally don't think I would have made a great mother earlier in life, while now I feel I have more patience and life experience.  There is no right time, its all what works for you.

Good luck to you, and I wish you a BFP soon!!
