How far along are you?

Hi there!  I've been on this forum for 5 years, but have been a way for a bit, and I see a whole lot of new members.  Fantastic and welcome!!  Thought it might be fun to get to know each other a bit, so how about introducing yourself and telling your story.  This forum is open to all women who may be pregnant, trying to get pregnant or just looking for pregnancy information.  So don't worry if your here and not currently pregnant...I'm not..ha.  I'll go first.

My name is Amanda and I started trying to get pregnant when I was 37.  I had no problem conceiving, but did have a problem carrying full term. When I was 40, my dreams came true and I got pregnant with a sticky bean that I delivered just before I turned 41.  He just turned 3 last week, and is a healthy happy normal child.  My husband and I wanted a second, but again, I conceive easily, just can't seem to carry.  So we started looking into alternative options.  I have a fair amount of information on embryo donation if anyone is interested.  We opted to let it go and my son will be an only child (at least for now), but you never know what the future holds.

Your never too old!  I love chatting with the over 35'ers, so please, tell us about you!  If you are pregnant, would also love to know where you are at, do you know what you are having, and anything else you want to share.

Nice to meet you all!  It's great to be back on this forum.

Amanda

Hi. My name is Tamesia. I'm 36 and will be 37 in May.  I live in northern NJ about 20 minutes outside of Manhattan. This will be my 8th child. I have 3 girls and 4 boys. They were all born on time and healthy except for the last one. She was diagnosed with Hydrops Fetalis at 16 weeks. I was told by both my OB and the perinatologists that I needed to just abort because she had fluid in her lungs and belly and eventually her heart would stop in the next couple weeks. They said there is no child that was diagnosed with that condition so early that survived to be born. There is only about a 2% survival rate and that is in babies who have a known cause for having this. I refused to accept that. At 23  weeks she was still alive and kicking so I had a procedure done where a doctor drained the fluid out of her lungs. It was so painful and I was afraid but I knew doing that would give her more of a chance of survival. By 31 weeks I developed polyhydramnios and went into labor. They tried to stop it but nothing worked. She spent 1 month in the NICU at the hospital but they didn't know how to treat her because her belly was still full of fluid. They transferred her to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia where she spent 4 months. She came home and has been absolutely perfect. When I see her and her smile everyday I just think about what if I took the doctors advice and aborted her. I would have been making the biggest mistake in my life. All I could think of that time was God will see me through this and doctors are just man. Now that I am 13 weeks I'm getting nervous because there is no guarantee this will not happen again. But I pray over this child everyday and try and believe everything will be ok.
