Job switch insurance question

Hey girls!! hope everyone is well! i know someone asked a simliar question below about insurance, but i was also wandering about cobra.. I am insurance thru my husband and we have great coverage -100% of everything and no copays! wow! anyhow i think he is going to be switching jobs, but will have a two month gap of no job.. I have the option of insurance thru my employer, but I hear its not very good and doens't cover many OB costs.. So i was wandering if anyone has used Cobra? is it the same coverage i have now, but we will pay extra to continue it? I am just thinking that it may be more cost effective to do that for two months, rather than switching to my insurance (which apparently doesnt cover anything) and then two months later switching again (he will hopefully have good insurance in a few months).  Also i'm on heparin and high risk pregnancy, so i go to the dr every 3 weeks right now. ANY advice is greatly appreciated!!! thanks!!! :)

Hi bny!

We're actually on cobra right now, and it's pretty darn expensive! It all depends on the type of coverage you have and how much your husband's employer is paying per month. With cobra, you will end up paying for all of this yourself (including all the costs currently covered by the company). The new "cobra act" (can't remember the actual name) that was recently signed by the president did help quite a bit, though. It ended up cutting our monthly payment from over $1,000 a month to less that $500. We've been paying the full amount to far, but received a letter in the mail a couple of weeks ago, stating that it will be retroactive.

So I guess it all depends on the coverage you would have under your insurance compared to how much your husband's cobra would cost. Oh and the 100% coverage with no copay is much better than what we used to have, so that might be even more expensive to continue than ours.

Best of luck, bny! Thankfully it's only for two months!
