Multiple day LH-surge

I am 37 years old and I have been trying to get pregnant for about 8 months now.
I have a very regular cycle (26-27 days).
I've been trying to take my temperature every morning and test for LH-surge starting day 8 of my cycle. My temperature doesn't spike real high after the LH-surge (maybe 0.4 degrees Celsius max), so I haven't been able to really figure out the time of my ovulation by using my body-temperature.
I have had a very consistent LH-surge reading though: it always starts on day 15 en continues through day 17 (so 3 days total). The test-line of the ovulation-kit is always similar or darker in color during those 3 days. All the days before day 15 and after day 17 the test-line is almost non-existent or way lighter in color.
What does all this mean?
When do I actually ovulate?
Is it normal to have a 3 day LH-surge?
Thanks!

Hiya,

From my past month's experience I had a lh surge on day 12 (didn't test after that), bd'd that night because I read that you could ovulate anywhere from 12 - 36 hours after i think (even though we both didn't want to I'd just had braces put on and to say I wasn't in the mood wouldn't even come close to expressing it....plus my braces were a little scary to him and me)

So:
LH+ CD12
BD CD12
O'd CD13/14
HPT+ CD24

So I would have O'd on day 13 or 14, hpt+ cd 24, af did not arrive on CD26.  So I'm not sure about the luteal phase length problem either.  In my case I only had a 12 day luteal phase which seems (so far) to have been adequate (it would seem to be from everything I've read that my situation (shortish cycles) is not much different than yours.

I know my particular problem would have been if I was looking for signs that I have been O'ing I'm not sure I would have been really sure except for the LH+, my mucous doesn't behave like it should  (that's why I tried Pre-Seed this month), and I hadn't really attempted temping.

Hopefully its just a matter of time before all the components line up for you and you have a hpt+

Good Luck,
Joanne

When I was TTC I was doing the same...temping and OPKs. My surge registered for two days. From what I read at the time, it's not unusual to have a surge for 2-3 days. However, generally they say that the actual ovulation occurs within 12-24 hours after you FIRST detect the surge. At least that's what I remember! So, I would say that you're probably ovulating just fine.

As for the temping, are you taking it consistently at the same time every morning? Before your feet even hit the floor? That's one thing I noticed, that the temp change wasn't as great if I didn't take it at the same time every morning, before I even opened my mouth to say anything or got up to pee. I ended up setting my alarm for 6 a.m. every day, even weekends, just to get accurate readings. Once I did that, seeing the temp pattern was much easier.

One other thing that gives me pause...and others here are more experienced, so they may know better. But ovulating on day 15 of a 26-day cycle seems a little late. That would make for a fairly short luteal phase, which (from what I remember) makes implantation an issue. Ladies, please correct me if I'm wrong!

Anyway...good luck and please let us know how things go!
