Not Wanting More Children

I want to know the rates of becoming pregnant after the woman AND the man have both had "THE" surgery. My bf had a vasectomy many years ago and I foind out I was pregnant!!!!! YIKES!!! Neither one of us was wanting more children at the time, so I'm very scared it could happen again!!! I have decided to make an appt to have my tubes tied, burned, cut---whatever it takes!!!! I want to know if anyone knows of any cases where a couple has gotten pregnant after having both partners "fixed"????

Thanks so much for the info Suzie. And lots of luck to you with your brand new baby. I have to say they are definitely a joy, but those days are over for me!!!! Thanks again for the support. I did schedule an appt and ask that they set aside a little more time for me to talk to the doctor IN DETAIL.....so I'll see what he has to say....

I did have one friend that got pregnant a couple years after her hubby had a vasectomy.  They were both faithful and come to find out that the surgery didn't hold.  Not sure why.  But I don't know of anyone who got pregnant after both of the surgeries.  A m/c is tough - I have had 5.  Now I am 14w 5d and thrilled.  This is what I wanted though.  check into your surgical options - just be sure it's what you want.

I guess I didn't quite state the facts that well.....I got pregnant YEARS after the vasectomy. LIKE 7 YEARS OR SO AFTER.....I lost the baby after 11 weeks, and that was even hard to go through, but that is why I am so concerned. I thought that after the first initail tests and after the first year or two, then the chances of becoming pregnant were next to NONE!!! I thought I was safe. Now I am scared to death, so I have decided to check into the surgery for myself. But like me getting pregnant many years AFTER the vasectomy, I am that 1%!!!!!

I would say your chances are slim to none.  But I have to ask the same thing as 40smama and Bean...is there a reason this is of concern now?  Best of luck to you!

I am curious as 40smama.  If he has had the surgery and you haven't gotten pregnant since that slip after his vasectomy odd are pretty slim that you are going to get pregnant.  I don't know of anyone who has gotten pregnant after both partners have had "THE surgeries".  I would not be too concerned if it were me.

Good Luck

I imagine that your odds are 99.9999999 percent.  I don't think you have anything to worry about.  You said your bf had a vasectomy - it's common to do a sperm analysis 4-6 weeks afterwards to make sure there's no sperm - did he have this done?  You haven't gotten pregnant since the vasectomy - just the one time - right?  So, knowing you haven't gotten pregnant in years, I wonder now why the sudden concern - just curious.
