Pregnancy chances?

Hi - new here (another Brit by the way). I'm 38 and married nearly two years in June and heard the words from the doctor just this Monday gone: "it's very unlikely you will ever get pregnant", devastating news! I'm not really sure why I am writing this; I know I am miles from home and perhaps just looking for company and support from people who have heard similar news....My doctor said that before we consider egg donation (the prospect of that possibly being our only option hasn't really sunk in) he will put me on Clomid - I start next month.....
I would love for someone to drop by and comment and perhaps share some of this babydust I see you kindly wish for those needing it.

Hi - thanks for writing. I am 39 in two months. I am sorry to seem ignorant but what's an RE?

Can I 'force' the doc give me another FSH test as he seemed so final or shall I just start with the 3 months of Clomid he has given me then re-evaluate? Is a level of 21 just too high to be hopeful?

Congrats to you and your family :o)  and thanks for the dust...I feel we're gonna need it.

FSH does fluctuate month to month.  Get him to check it again.  As for starting too late, I got married for the first time at 37 and I got pregnant for the first time Nov. 2007...2 months before my 39th birthday.  I don't consider it too late at all....there are lots of women in this forum who are conceiving at our age and older.  You might want to consider consulting an RE.  Best of luck to you and lots of SSBD (super sticky baby dust!!)  Amanda

Hello All, thank you so much for responding.

The doc said my FSH was 21 - he didn't suggest it fluctuates, but I've seen from online research that it can do this....Sadly I have also seen people call a high FSH result anything over 12 so I am really at a loss.

I really do hope I can prove him wrong and I thank you for the support and the baby dust. Both my husband and I have never had children nor been married before and found each other quite late to start this I guess. The doctor was just so flippant it seemed :'o(

I agree w/Heather & adgal - why would he say this?  You're only 38 - that seems young to be considering donor eggs in my opinion anyway.

hopefully the Clomid will work & like Heather said, you'll prove your doctor wrong.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that too. Did you have some test done that made your doctor think it would be unlikely to conceive on your own? Like a high FSH level?

I'm definitely sending you lots of baby dust! Let's hope you can prove your doctor wrong!

Hello and welcome!!!  It's really hard to say.  Did he tell you why he feels that way?  I have heard stories here of women who were told that, but still conceived healthy babies.
