39, had sex 7 days after period end

My wife is 39, and we just had sex in the past couple days. When we did, it was 7-8 days after her period ended. I'm trying to figure out the likelihood of pregnancy in this case because this is the 1st time we've not used any protection. She thinks it will take a while for her to get pregnant. Are there statistics around? Or any 39-yr.-olds who can comment? I'm open to having a child, but also quite scared and been feeling 'on the fence' about it.

Hi there:  I agree with mjmom69 it all depends on your wives cycle each month to determine when she may be ovulating.  You guys could try doing the ovulation kits.  My hubby and I started to try for out 3rd child in the beginning of the year and we didn't get pregnant till August so it took us about 6 months to get pregnant this time when last time I got pregnant in like 2 months.  We already have a set of twins and we r expecting another set of twins so I know how u feel about becoming a parent.  It's a lot of work but it's well worth it in the end.  I am so happy that I have my children and my 2 little ones on the way.  I wouldn't trade that in for anything in the world.  It's the best thing that my hubby and I ever did.  Good luck to you and your wife and keep us posted!!!

Hi,

it is possible that she could get pregnant.  At 39 though, there is also a possibility that getting pregnant may take some time.

I was 38 and I got pregnant immediately that I tried.  My twin sister also is now pregnant and she achieved this with just a couple of months of trying (she's now 39).

It is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about having a baby.  I think most of us do.  When I decided about having a baby I thought of how I would feel when I am old if I didn't have children, and then I knew I wanted to proceed.

It is a big thing, and I won't lie, it is hard. But it is also unimaginably wonderful. I have absolutely no regrets about my decision to have a child.  Go with the flow and what you are given.  Best wishes to you and your wife.

If she has a 28 day cycle, it is unlikely. If she has a 25 day or so, the chances go up. A woman ovulates 14 days before her period so if her cycle is short, the ovulation days is closer to the beginning of her period. If your wifes period last a week or so, then it is possible, if her period is only a couple of days long and she has a 28 day cycle, probably not but the only way to know for sure is to wait for her next period. Hope this helps.
