Hi,

Your story gives me hope.  I will be going through IVF/Embroyo transfer with donor eggs.  We are set to do this the last week of May or beginning of June.  I'm so excited.  I have been trying to conceive for over ten years.  I am 36 and DH is 31.  The donor we chose is 24 yrs. old so I hope this helps me conceive and deliver a health baby.  Staying positive :)

I do think donor eggs are oversold.  Older eggs are definately an issue in conception and especially miscarriage.  I am 42 and had 5 miscarriages, then a healthy boy, followed by 2 more miscarriages.  I have been through all sorts of testing and it most certainly is due to my age.

Even with donor eggs it doesn't always work.  Couples with infertility going through IVF even in their 20's can and do have failed cycles.  They also miscarry.  So it's not so much that donor eggs are a guarantee, but that they dramatically increase your chances for those of us in our 40's.

I do look forward to your updates and wish you success!

Thank you so much for your great words and support. I am so surprised to hear that it can take a few times with donor eggs only because they make it sound like these eggs are MIRACLE EGGS. They always blame unsuccessful IVF with your own eggs ..........because they are old and bad. So what's the reason with a 23yr old's eggs???
We will try again. I will let you know. Please stay in touch with me.

Hi there.  I haven't used donor eggs myself (but would in a heartbeat, it's just hard in Canada with our strange laws around the issue).  I have however been on this board a long time and know of several women who did successfully...all in their mid 40's.  Most aren't on here much anymore, too busy with those cute little babies!  I can tell you that it's not uncommon to have a failed cycle or two with IVF, whether it be your own eggs or donor.  For some it happens first try, for others it takes a few.  I'm so sorry your transfer failed and I wish you success the next time.  I know it is heartbreaking, but there are so many success stories, and I know yours can be one too!

I am very sorry your IVF attempt was not successful :(   (((hug)))

I don't have any firsthand experience with IVF. I have read that success rates can vary from fertility specialist to fertility specialist but how much of that is fact and how much is self-promotion I don't know. IVF with donor eggs IS supposed to give you the best chance at a successful conception and pregnancy. Your age isn't supposed to be as important as the age of the egg (hence all the stories of menopausal women in their 60's conceiving and having babies using donor eggs).

Again, so very sorry things did not work out this time (((hug)))
