To all of you taking DHEA.....

Do you get headaches? I started taking this last month as I am TTC and I keep reading that it can only help with egg quality, etc. But if I take even half of the 50mg pill (25mg) I get a headache that will not go away with anything.  I do not know if the small amount Im taking will even do anything.  And DHEA has also  made my anxiety worse, and I am wiening myself off of a couple of meds as they are not pregnancy safe. I cannot imagine taking 50 mg or 75 mg of this... it will truly make me sick. It does say on the bottle to stop using if you get heacache, blah, blah, blah. I have taken a small amount of DHEA the last couple of days, like quarter of a tablet-12mg and I seem to be fine. Anyone else have issues with DHEA?

Before taking any DHEA, you probably should have your DHEA levels checked. I had mine checked and I am very severely deficient in DHEA-sulfate (it's an adrenal glands problem).

I took a little bit of synthetic DHEA at some points, 25 unit, got no side effects but I do know that it can give cancer so I was reluctant to take it so I stopped it.

This is from the Mayo Clinic website:

"There is sufficient evidence supporting the use of DHEA in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency, depression, induction of labor, and systemic lupus erythematosus.

No studies on the long-term effects of DHEA have been conducted. DHEA can cause higher than normal levels of androgens and estrogens in the body, and theoretically may increase the risk of prostate, breast, ovarian, and other hormone-sensitive cancers. Therefore, it is not recommended for regular use without supervision by a licensed health professional"

I take DHA which is an omega 3, but I've never heard of taking DHEA for ttc.  What is the benefit supposed to be?  Just curious after reading the Mayo synopsis. It wouldn't surprise me if it caused headaches if in fact it does cause higher than normal levels of estrogens in the body.  :)
